Exacting, Handmade 1/32 Ilya Muromets Model Offered For Sale

A handmade, 1/32 model of the Sikorsky Ilya Muromets has been spotted for sale. The listing states:

Model aircraft Ilya Muromets scale 1:32 made by hand by our masters. You can call a small copy of the aircraft. The model is executed in the smallest details outside and inside and will satisfy the most pretentious and experienced fans of aircraft modeling. On the model you will see: movable arms, rotating the screws, a removable cover for the cockpit view on the interior, transparent windows and all the stretch marks most relevant to the original. When creating this model, materials that were used in the production of the aircraft were partially used. The model is installed on the surface directly on the chassis without additional support, also has a place for mounting cables for hanging the model to the ceiling.

New Kits Reproduce Sopwith Pup “Exactly As It Was 100 Years Ago”

France-based Replic Aero is now offering Sopwith Pup kits that reportedly allow you to “assemble your plane exactly as it was 100 years ago.”

“The metal parts are ready to bend and weld, all the wood parts are ready to be adjusted (for some) and assembled. The Sopwith Pup is available as a complete kit, as a series of sub-kits or as portions of a sub-kit. The Sopwith Pup being assembled is for sale, Ready to cover or covered, the engine and the instruments are the choice of the future owner. Also possible ‘ready to fly.'”

An Airdrome Aeroplanes Morane-Saulnier kitplane project has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):

I started to build the plane but due to some life changes I am going to offer it up at auction… This is for a partially built kit only. The Fuselage is 75% built and the Rudder is completed. Both section are well done. If you prefer to start from scratch Airdrome Aerplanes will sell you the just these sub-kits. It’s all there still in the original shipping crate. Instructions and dvd’s are included. all parts are labeled and the kit is very build able (not a big mess). Great big wing, perfect for a smaller 4-stroke engine. Easy & fun flyer. I understand it needs to be a good value to sell so I am starting the bidding off at $499.99. The kit cost new over $5500.00. Does not include engine or prop.

“Museum Quality” 110 Le Rhone Rotary Engine Offered For Sale

A Le Rhone rotary engine described as “museum quality” has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

This Le RHONE Model 9J 110 hp rotary engine was manufactured December 29, 1917 for the US WW1 war effort. I assume it was made in France but other manufacturers also built this engine. Amongst others this Le Rhone engine powered the Sopwith Camel, the Focker including the triplane and the Vicker. This engine could possibly be rebuilt and be up in the air again. I am not a pilot nor a mechanic, so to me it is a museum piece for my man cave. It is time for someone else to enjoy my engine – wish it could talk – for it has unknown provenance.

I believe it is in excellent shape. Cooling fins are generally fine. It wheels on its stand and the engine turns easily. It stands about 4′ high on the stand and is about 40″ in circumference but only about 18″-24″ wide. It weighs approximately 330 lbs so it would be expensive to ship. I am going to let the buyer arrange shipping, but I will assist as much as I can. Pick up may be the best option. I have moved it easily on it’s stand up a small incline onto a trailer with two strong guys.

Siddeley Puma-Powered DH.9 E8894 Performs First Post-Restoration Flight

The Historic Aircraft Collection has announced the first post-restoration flight of de Havilland DH.9 E8894/G-CDLI.

As previously reported, the aircraft is one of two DH.9s discovered in an elephant stable in India and restored over a 15 year period by Guy Black’s Retrotec workshop in East Sussex, England. While the first example (D-5649) was rebuilt for static display at the Imperial War Museum, this second DH.9 was restored to airworthy status and is powered by the only airworthy Siddeley Puma engine in the world. The aircraft is owned by Retrotec’s sister company Aero Vintage and operated by Historic Aircraft Collection.

The flight was reportedly conducted yesterday from the Imperial War Museum’s Duxford airfield with pilot Dodge Bailey at the controls. It lasted 30 minutes and was described as “trouble free.”

Eduard Releases New Fokker D.VII (OAW) Model Kit

Eduard has released a new 1/72 Fokker D.VII model kit representing aircraft built by Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke (OAW).

The ProfiPACK edition (70131) kit is touted as offering Eduard plastic parts and decals, pre-painted photoetched parts, a painting mask and marking options for five machines, including the aircraft seen on the box art above, which was flown by Ltn. Wilhelm Leusch, CO of Jasta 19.

Fabric Cockade Panel From World’s Only Flying Bristol Scout C Hits The Market

Following a recent recovering, the French cockade worn by a reproduction of Bristol Scout 1264 has hit the market.

Bristol Scout 1264 was first flown in 2015 at Bicesterbefore travelling across to Thassos in Greece in 2016 for the 100 years commemoration of the RNAS in the Dardanelles and then taken to France as partof the commemorations of the Battle of the Somme…. This is the only airworthy Bristol Scout ‘C’ type in the world. She has original parts (stick,rudder bar and magneto) which Flight Lieutenant FDH Bremner brought home from his time in Greece on Thassos where he flew his ‘Beloved 1264’ as part of the Gallipoli Campaign in WWI.

The reproduction machine was reportedly rebuilt “to the within 99% of the 1914 specification.” This particular section of linen fabric was sourced from the side of the Scout’s fuselage and measures 77 x 56 cm. All funds raised will go towards work on the aircraft engine and associated transportation to shows around the UK.
