New Renderings Show Detail of Kotare’s Upcoming Hawker Hurricane Mk.I

Kotare has released a new series of renderings for their upcoming new tool Hawker Hurricane Mk.I (Early) in 1/32 scale. The new renderings more clearly show the detailed cockpit interior and intricate surface features including recessed and raised rivets, tightly doped fabric surfaces and at least 3 different styles of rib and stringer stitching.

First Look: Arma Hobby Hurricane Mk I Test Build

As previously reported, Arma Hobby recently received the final sprues for their highly anticipated new tool Hawker Hurricane Mk I (40015) in 1/48 scale. Since then the company has completed the very first full build of the model and released a series of test build photos.

Since these are test shots, some elements do not yet have all the final milling details, and a few minor short shots and excess plastic appeared during assembly. This is completely normal at this stage — all corrections are already planned and will be implemented in the next few days before the mould enters full production cycle.

First Look: Final Sprues for Arma Hobby’s Hurricane Mk I

Arma Hobby has released photos showing the sprues for their highly anticipated new tool Hawker Hurricane Mk I (40015) in 1/48 scale. These are expected to be the final sprue tests prior to launching production and consist of the fuselage halves, updated and corrected radiator / tropical filter for the Mk I version, and the propeller components (two propeller types and three spinners).

The fuselage halves show the full variety of surface textures typical of early Hurricanes: fabric-covered sections, aluminum panels with very fine rivets, dzus fasteners, air intakes and outlets, and ventilation slots. These varied textures and micro-details were among the most challenging parts of the project, which is why we are pleased to see them reproduced exactly as planned in the test shots.

The company states that if test assembly goes smoothly, production will commence “in about a week.” Shipping will hopefully begin before the end of the month. The kit will reportedly include a highly detailed cockpit and canopy parts from the award-winning Hurricane Mk IIb, four historically accurate RAF marking options, high-quality Techmod decals and masks for canopy and wheels. New Book Offers “Intensely Readable, Spirited and Classic Account” of Hawker Hurricane’s Service

Adrian Stewart’s new book Hurricane: The Plane That Saved Britain is touted as offering an “intensely readable, spirited and classic account” of the legendary Hawker Hurricane, describing “all the Hurricane’s roles, adventures and achievements.”

The Hawker Hurricane was flying on the outbreak of war in 1939. Six years later, having saved Britain, it was still playing a major part in the war effort. Widely remembered in its fighter role and unjustly left in the shade of the Spitfire, the Hurricane’s role was varied and pivotal: as a fighter, fighter-bomber, anti-tank aircraft and used at sea. Nor was its theatre of operations any less wide: it saw action in France from the beginning of the Phoney War to the outbreak of the Blitzkrieg, in the Battle of Britain, and then as far afield as Russia, Sumatra and Madagascar.

The book, which “recounts the exploits of the aircraft’s outstanding pilots who contributed so much towards mastery of the skies and eventual victory,” spans 344 pages and is available in both paperback and Kindle formats.

Hawker Hurricane Aft Fuselage, Empennage Offered For Sale

A Hawker Hurricane aft fuselage / empennage has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):

Here we have a replica Hawker Hurricane rear fuselage, rear main plane and fin for sale. Built by RRS Aviation, Hawkins, Texas. It was part of 2 Hurricanes that were built using original parts from 5 other aircraft which were purchased from Jack Arnold in Canada. Displayed at the Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio as Z3174/XRB it was sent Hawker Restorations who rebuilt the aircraft using original parts. At this stage the replica rear fuselage, fin and mainplane were removed. The completed aircraft was returned to the US. Internally built from square welded tubing the metal from is covered with wooden stringers and formers and which in turn are covered with a doped and painted Irish linen to form the skin as shown. This rear section was built to be functional and there are various pulleys which are internally mounted. Included are also several fuselage panels and 2 large wing sections.

The section is currently on display at the Fenland Aviation Museum near Wisbech, UK and is available for £3,600. Click here to check out the complete listing on eBay.

Italeri Releases Battle of Britain Hawker Hurricane Mk.I Model Kit

Italeri has re-released its 1/48 Hawker Hurricane Mk.I model kit with changed decals representing four Battle of Britain machines.

It appears that the kit (2802) contains photo etched parts and liveries for P2923, flown by Plt. Albert Gerard Lewis of 85 Squadron; P3395, flown by F/OA.W. Clowes of 1 Squadron; P3878, flown by Plt. Off. HAC Bird-Wilson of 17 Squadron; and P2961, flown by F/OW.L. McKnight of 242 Squadron.

Aeroplane Heaven Releases New Hawker Hurricane For P3D, FSX

Aeroplane Heaven has released their new Hawker Hurricane Mk 1 for P3D (V4.4+ dedicated) and FSX.

As previously reported, the model is touted as offering full PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials and textures for P3DV4.5, which are said to provide a new level of realism, making it what the developer believes will be the first warbird made completely with PBR technology both inside and out. For Sale: Hawker Hurricane Fabric With “RAF Museum and Veteran Documents”

An “original WWII” 77” x 40” fabric section reportedly from the starboard section of a Hawker Hurricane is available for sale. The listing states (in part):

If you collect you know large sections of fabric extremely rare. . Very fragile with paint loss. Front lightly treated to prevent additional paint loss. Should be shipped flat. Clear fabric reinforcement tape applied on weak seams on rear. Can be removed if necessary. Copies of all documentation pictured and more will be provided.

First Look: Arma Hobby’s Upcoming New Tool Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc

Arma Hobby has released the first test shots of their upcoming new tool Hawker Hurricane Mk IIc model kit in 1/72 scale.

As previously reported, its design is said to maintain the rear fuselage shape, wings and tailplane of the company’s previous Mk I kit, with the rest being “an entirely new project.” This includes a longer fuselage before the cockpit, new fishtail exhaust, a new carburetor inlet, a new (longer) tropical filter cover, two variants of cannon barrels, a modified one-piece propeller design, enhanced landing gear bays with improved assembly of the undercarriage legs, and more. It appears that two livery options will also be included.

The offering is described as “almost ready to release” and will reportedly be available in three versions, including an Expert Set (70035) Model Kit (70036) and a Trop Model Kit (70037). Click below to check out additional images.

Aeroplane Heaven’s Full PBR Hawker Hurricane Nearing Completion

Aeroplane Heaven has announced that their Hawker Hurricane Mk 1 for P3D (V4.4+ dedicated) and FSX is nearing completion.

The model will reportedly feature full PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials and textures to provide a new level of realism, making it what the developer believes will be the first warbird made completely with PBR technology both inside and out. The detail level is described as “exceptionally high” and there are many unique animations.

A selection of screenshots have been released showing the aircraft in P3DV4.5, although tech specs note that it will also be compatible with V2, V3 and V4.3. The model will reportedly be coming to FSX SP2/Accel Pack/Steam as well. A final release date has not yet been announced.
