Kotare Offers Limited Edition Spitfire Mk.I PR Type B That Will Never Be Re-Released

Kotare Models has announced the upcoming release of a Spitfire Mk.I PR Type B model kit in 1/32 scale.

The Mk.I PR Type B was a mid-production Mk.I airframe converted in late 1939–early 1940 into a specialized unarmed photo‑reconnaissance aircraft, optimized for speed, range, and altitude by stripping out all armament and radio equipment, fairing over gun bays, and adding extra fuel and oxygen behind the pilot for longer missions. Externally it carried two downward‑facing F24 cameras with 8‑inch lenses in blister fairings under the wings and used a lighter, unarmored windscreen plus a blown canopy with teardrop side blisters to improve downward visibility. These aerodynamic and weight‑saving changes, combined with the high‑gloss pale blue finish typical of early PR Spitfires, allowed the PR Type B to conduct medium‑range, high‑speed photographic sorties over enemy territory with minimal chance of interception during the early stages of the Second World War. Kotare Developing 1/32 Defiant Mk.I With Exclusive Perks For Pre-Orders

Kotare has announced the development of a Boulton Paul Defiant Mk.I in 1/32 scale. The kit (K32510) will be an exclusive, limited edition release with only 5,000 being produced. Each will by hand numbered by Kotare Models owner Mark Robson.

Those who pre-order will become a member of “Project Defiant” — an exclusive group with access to a private Facebook page, online forum, and email network. Members will also have the chance to meet Kotare staff in person at major model shows across the UK, Australia, the USA, and New Zealand to share ideas and connect with others. Regular updates will cover the project’s design progress, with opportunities to engage directly with kit designer Nick Moore and the team. Project Defiant members can contribute to major design decisions, share aircraft knowledge, and help decide on color schemes. Pre-orders also include a bonus: a set of 3D‑printed resin exhausts and a print of Darryl Legg’s beautiful box art.

Be in the draw to build a second test shot! From the first 500 people who make an order, we will randomly draw 20 names. Those modellers will be offered the chance to build and critique a second test shot of the kitset, to augment the process we at Kotare do.

The company expects to begin pre-order shipping by March 2028. The retail price is US $125 plus shipping and applicable taxes and/or tariffs in your country.

Kotare Announces Development of 1/32 Bf 109E-4 Model Kit

Kotare Models has announced the development of a new tool Bf 109E-4 in 1/32 scale.

Highly regarded Luftwaffe expert Radu Brinzan, who designed our well-received Bf 109K-4 kitset, has done a fabulous job with this model. The design is partly based on a LIDAR scan of the example at the RAF Museum but we have deleted the bend in the nose caused by that aircraft crash landing in 1940!

As of this writing, the CAD data is complete and the company is going through a brief
period of public feedback in which everybody is welcome to contribute. Experts will also be evaluating the design “with a fine tooth comb.” The kit is expected to begin shipping in Q3-Q4 2026.
