Kotare to Launch Bf 109E-4 Pre-Orders With Perks for Select Customers

Kotare has shared an update on the development of their Bf 109E-4 model kit in 1/32 scale.

After receiving input from various Bf 109 experts, the team is now selecting marking options with the assistance of Lynn Ritger.

OPTION 1 AND BOX TOP ART: A machine that can be accurately depicted without that symbol that causes so much controversy! OPTION 2: Many modellers dislike spraying Luftwaffe mottle schemes. This aircraft will have a nice clean splinter camouflage pattern with the high demarcation RLM 65. OPTION 3: In contrast, many modellers LOVE spraying mottle, so this option will have an aesthetic scheme, and an interesting backstory. OPTION 4: Continuing the Kotare policy of community engagement, option 4 will be chosen by pre-order customers… For Option 4, members of the Kotare First 500 will be able to make suggestions, create a shortlist and then vote in a poll to choose the final markings option. We will supply what YOU want!

Further details have yet to be announced, although pre-ordering is expected to open “soon.” Click below to check out additional renderings.

ICM Releases Luftwaffe Night Fighters Model Collection

Newly available this month is ICM’s collection of Luftwaffe night fighters in 1/72 scale. The collection (72209) includes the Bf 109E-4, Do 17Z-10 Kauz II and Fw 189A-1.

Since no aircraft were specifically designed for night combat at the time, the Luftwaffe initially used standard combat aircraft painted in dark colors—such as the Bf 109E-4 operated by Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 (the 1st Night Fighter Wing). For long-range interception of British bombers over British territory, they employed a specially converted Do 17 bomber designated the Do 17Z-10 Kauz II. The aircraft featured an infrared searchlight to help locate enemy aircraft in the night sky.

There are also documented cases of Fw 189 A-1 aircraft being used as night fighters after special modifications, including the installation of FuG 212 radar and an additional MG 151 cannon mounted for forward and upward firing.

The models are touted as having highly detailed cockpits and surfaces and each has its own decal sheet.

Kotare Announces Development of 1/32 Bf 109E-4 Model Kit

Kotare Models has announced the development of a new tool Bf 109E-4 in 1/32 scale.

Highly regarded Luftwaffe expert Radu Brinzan, who designed our well-received Bf 109K-4 kitset, has done a fabulous job with this model. The design is partly based on a LIDAR scan of the example at the RAF Museum but we have deleted the bend in the nose caused by that aircraft crash landing in 1940!

As of this writing, the CAD data is complete and the company is going through a brief
period of public feedback in which everybody is welcome to contribute. Experts will also be evaluating the design “with a fine tooth comb.” The kit is expected to begin shipping in Q3-Q4 2026.
