Kotare Offers Limited Edition Spitfire Mk.I PR Type B That Will Never Be Re-Released

Kotare Models has announced the upcoming release of a Spitfire Mk.I PR Type B model kit in 1/32 scale.

The Mk.I PR Type B was a mid-production Mk.I airframe converted in late 1939–early 1940 into a specialized unarmed photo‑reconnaissance aircraft, optimized for speed, range, and altitude by stripping out all armament and radio equipment, fairing over gun bays, and adding extra fuel and oxygen behind the pilot for longer missions. Externally it carried two downward‑facing F24 cameras with 8‑inch lenses in blister fairings under the wings and used a lighter, unarmored windscreen plus a blown canopy with teardrop side blisters to improve downward visibility. These aerodynamic and weight‑saving changes, combined with the high‑gloss pale blue finish typical of early PR Spitfires, allowed the PR Type B to conduct medium‑range, high‑speed photographic sorties over enemy territory with minimal chance of interception during the early stages of the Second World War.

The new kit (K32502) will include 150 high quality injection molded parts, including 13 all new tooled parts: optional open and closed canopy hood with the slightly larger & rounded typical PR side blisters, unarmored PR windscreen, 29-gallon fuselage fuel tank, 8” focal length camera lenses & wing blister fairings, and port & starboard engine cowlings with additional ventilation found on the PR Type B. High quality Cartograf decals for N3117, RH Niven & IG Richmond, 212 Squadron and P9331 ‘9’, LD Wilson & AJ Blackwell, 212 Squadron.

Pre-order before release and receive a beautiful (and highly collectible) Darryl Legg box art print suitable for framing (to be revealed later) and 32P001 Kotare 1/32 Spitfire Mk.Ia (Mid/Late) 3Dprint exhaust (value US$12.99) free of charge. Additionally, the first 300 pre-order customers will also receive 32P003 Spitfire Door (Mk.Ia Mid/Late) free of charge. Only available while stocks last.

The offering will be limited to 2000 hand-numbered models and it will never be re-released. Shipping is expected during the 3rd quarter of 2026.
