“In Annual” DC-3/C-47 Offered For Sale

An “in annual” DC-3/C-47 has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

“Released from military service 1958 and transferred to the FAA; Transferred from FAA to the USDA in 1966; Transferred from the USDA to the County of Monroe, FL (Date unknown); Released from Government service and transferred to Howe Enterprises 1998; Transferred from Howe Enterprises to Heartland Air Museum 2012; Transferred from Heartland Air Museum to current owner California Machinery Services, Inc. 2016”

Three C-47 / DC-3 Aircraft Offered For Sale

Three C-47/DC-3 aircraft have hit the market.

The collection reportedly consists of three airframes (C-47-DL S/N 9053 – N47FJ, C-47B-5-DK S/N 14511 – N51938 and DC-3-455 S/N 6325 – N486C) as well as six PW R1830 engines.

According to the descriptions, N47FJ was constructed in 1943 and served with the US Army Air Corps in Algeria as well as with the 9th Air Force in England, where it flew sorties in support of the D-Day landings. It last flew in 1990 and has a TTSN of 22,322.75.

N51938 was built in 1944 and originally delivered to the US Navy, serving as an executive transport. It last flew in 1982 and has a TTSN of 21,259.

N486C was built for American Airlines in 1942, but ended up serving with Air Transport Command during WW2. It was later acquired by Eastern Airlines. It last flew in 1990 and has a TTSN of 48,962.

Douglas C-47A D-Day and Market Garden Veteran Offered For Sale

A 1944 Douglas C-47A / DC-3C D-Day and Market Garden veteran has hit the market.

This C-47A-5-DK was reportedly built in January 1944 by Douglas Aircraft Company at their plant in Oklahoma City and has the manufacturer serial number 12253 and tail number 42-92451. It was assigned by the USAAF on January 24, 1944, and was taken on charge by the Royal Air Force (RAF) at Dorval, Montreal, QC on February 4th 1944. It received RAF registration FZ668 and was ferried to England and assigned to 271 Squadron.

The listing states (in part):

Aircraft condition: Project, not airworthy, sold as is and without warranty. The aircraft is sold without engines / propellers / instruments / seats / elevators. Airframe: 43354 hours. No logbook but enough documents to get a new one issued. Airframe is in good condition and can be restored to airworthy condition. The buyer must pay a non refundable $750 deposit within 48h after the end of the auction.

HpH Models Releases New Interior Images of Upcoming 1/32 C-47 Kit

HpH Models has released new images detailing the interior of their upcoming 1/32 C-47 model kit.

As previously noted, two kits will reportedly be made available, beginning with the C-47 and followed by a DC-3. The company states that it is currently finishing work on the C-47, although additional details, including pricing and full kit contents, remain a mystery at the moment.

“Ready to Go” Douglas DC-3 Offered For Sale

A mysterious passenger Douglas DC-3 has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

Available to select customers, this is an outstanding DC-3 aircraft located in Europe. The aircraft has great times, excellent history, recent wing pull and is ready to go. Current owner available to fly the aircraft for the for Daks over Normandy.

The aircraft’s registration and serial have not been published, although it is said that its history includes military service. New Video Captures C-53 “Beach City Baby” Returning to the Air for the First Time in 25 Years

On October 6, C-53 Skytrooper “Beach City Baby” returned to the air for the fist time in 25 years following over two years of work.

The aircraft (S/N 41-20095) was constructed by Douglas and was on the factory floor when the Pearl Harbor attack occurred in December 1941. It was delivered to the USAAC in January 1942 and was soon flown to Africa to participate in Operation Torch. The machine also saw service transporting troops and VIPs during the war and completed its service with FEA, Cairo Division.

Following civilian service with Danish Airlines/SAS and a stint as “Buckeye One,” the official state aircraft for the governor of Ohio, the Skytrooper was retired and flown to the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio where it remained until 1990, when it was acquired by Ohio University of Athens and stripped of its engines. Eventually Ken Joseph stepped in and returned it to an airworthy state, obtaining a ferry permit and flying it to Beach City, Ohio in 1992. Two kits will reportedly be made available, beginning with the C-47. However, additional details are still scarce at the moment and pricing, availability and full kit contents remain a mystery.

Flyzone Releases New C-47, DC-3 RC Models

Flyzone has released their new C-47 and DC-3 micro RC model airplanes.

As previously reported, the models are said to offer smooth, stable flight characteristics and impressive micro scale looks. The C-47 variant is depicted in the colors of 42-100882 “Drag ’em Oot,” which participated in D-Day and now operates with Aero Legends of Kent, England. Meanwhile, the model representing the commercial DC-3 configuration is adorned with the colors of C/N 2268 (NC28391) of Eastern Air Lines.

Each model spans 23″ and is available in RTF (Ready to Fly) versions complete with a Tactic 4-channel SLT radio system with built-in battery charger, 1S LiPo flight battery and 5 AA batteries.
