Watch Newly Restored B-52 “Midnight Express” Arrive at New Home [Video]

On Sunday, the newly restored B-52G Stratofortress “Midnight Express” arrived at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. The Welcome Home ceremony saw the machine’s restored fuselage transported from Paine Field in Everett to Raisbeck Aviation High School, traveling down East Marginal Way South.

As previously reported, the bomber (S/N 59-2584) had been parked outdoors at the museum’s Paine Field facility for the past 26 years. A $2.2 million effort was launched to restore the machine for use as the centerpiece of a new Vietnam Air War Memorial Park, which will pay tribute to the aircraft of the Vietnam War and honor the service members who flew and supported them.

The fuselage was the largest and final piece of the restored aircraft to arrive the museum, where it will eventually be reassembled for display in the new park, which is set to open on November 11.

2/3 Sal/Falco Type P-51 Mustang Offered For Sale

A 2/3 scale P-51 Mustang has hit the market.

The aircraft reportedly consists of Sal/Falco type plans and construction, an LS-1 engine (said to be in “good condition”) and a 4-blade propeller with PSRU and ignition system custom built for the engine type. A digital com radio is also included.

Special Hobby’s Lloyd C.V Comes Together In New Stop-Motion Video

Modeler Tom Grigat’s latest stop-motion video captures the assembly of Special Hobby’s Lloyd C.V Series 46 model kit in 1/72 scale.

The original aircraft’s plywood paneling was represented with wood grain decals from Uschi van der Rosten over brown accentuated paint from Alclad II. The rigging material is rubber thread (Uschi van der Rosten) fixed with eyelets and turnbuckles made with rods and tubes from Albion Alloys.

Cold War Era CT-114 Tutor Offered For Sale

A CT-114 Tutor jet trainer has hit the market.

The aircraft is described as a complete airframe with “ejection seats, instruments, less engine and motor mounts.” All logs and tech manuals are also said to be included.

The seller states that the aircraft is available as flying example or gate guardian, noting that they can offer service and parts location. Engineering, prints, mount construction, full painting and on-site installation is also said to be available for those interested in gate guard display.

HpH Releases New Images of Upcoming 1/32 DC-3/C-47 Model

HpH Models has released new images of their upcoming new tool DC-3/C-47 models in 1/32 scale.

Two kits will reportedly be made available, beginning with the C-47. However, additional details are still scarce at the moment and pricing, availability and full kit contents remain a mystery.

Museum of Flight to Hold Welcome Ceremony for Newly Restored B-52 “Midnight Express”

The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington has announced a Welcome Ceremony for their newly restored B-52 Stratofortress “Midnight Express.”

As previously reported, the bomber (S/N 59-2584) had been parked outdoors at the museum’s Paine Field facility in Everett for the past 26 years. The fuselage will be the largest and final piece of the restored aircraft to arrive the museum. It is currently scheduled to depart Paine Field in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, June 3, travelling south on I-405 to I-5, then towards the museum on East Marginal Way South. The public is invited to watch its arrival at Raisbeck Aviation High School parking lot, where it will eventually be reassembled for display in the new memorial park, which will reportedly begin construction this fall. Hangar 9 To Release Sport Scale F6F Hellcat RC Model

Hangar 9 has announced the upcoming release of a 15cc Sport Scale F6F Hellcat RC model.

The offering is said to boast “realism with the specific needs of the sport pilot,” resulting in a “large model that’s easy to handle and offers the awesome look of a high-performance fighter.” Features reportedly include lightweight, laser-cut balsa and plywood construction, factory-applied UltraCote film covering and realistic markings and graphics with three nose-art decal choices.

The model’s hardware package is touted as offering everything needed for the installation of an internal-combustion or electric power engine, while the fiberglass cowl “provides enough space to conceal any of the recommended engine or motor recommendations.”

XP-82 Twin Mustang Nears Completion, AirVenture 2018 Debut Planned

The decade-long restoration of the XP-82 Twin Mustang prototype (S/N 44-83887, seen above) is nearing completion, and the team behind the project is hoping that it will be ready in time for a planned debut at AirVenture 2018.

As previously reported, the F-82 long-range escort fighter was designed late in WW2 and became the last propeller-driven fighter produced in quantity for the U.S. Air Force. Tom Reilly of Douglas, Georgia acquired the XP-82 prototype from Walter and Margaret Soplata in 2008 and restoration to airworthy condition began that July at Douglas Municipal Airport. Additional F-82 parts were sourced from Alaska and Colorado and a rare, left-hand turning Allison V-12 was located in Mexico. Additional components, including full second cockpit controls and a second canopy (one that “is completely different from any P-51 type”) were sourced from San Francisco and Tampa, respectively.

Interest in the restoration of this exceedingly rare machine has been high, and Reilly states that “There is no better place than Oshkosh to make the first public flights of this aircraft, which is why it is our intent to complete the restoration and testing so we can be a part of AirVenture 2018.”

The AirVenture fly-in is scheduled to take place at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin from July 23-29.

Aeroplane Heaven’s New FSX, P3D Bristol Bulldog Nearing Completion

Flight Simulation developer Aeroplane Heaven has released updated screenshots of their upcoming Bristol Bulldog Mk IIA for FSX, FSX SE and P3D.

As previously reported, the representation of the golden age RAF fighter, which trained many pilots who served in the Battle of Britain, is the result of careful research with “much attention to detail.” It is reportedly being created using the latest tech and techniques to be “the definitive tribute to this iconic and important aeroplane.”

Features are said to include the type’s special pressurized gas-starting system, a wing-mounted, wind-powered generator, cocking levers on the twin Vickers machine guns and opening ammunition boxes. In addition, the brake wires and levers on the wheels are animated and all wires and struts are touted as being correctly modeled and complete with scale turnbuckles.

Development is reportedly nearing an end and testing is now underway. A final release date has not yet been reported. Click below to check out a selection of new images.

1942 N2S-3 Stearman Offered For Sale

A 1942 N2S-3 Stearman N62598 has hit the market.

The aircraft was reportedly converted and reconditioned from duster service in 1985 and is described as “extremely low time” and “a blast to fly.” The airframe is said to have a total time of 1,458 hrs while the R-985-14B engine has 464 hrs SMOH. The prop (Hamilton Standard 2D30 with 6101A blades) has 188 hrs since overhaul by Maxwell Propellers.

The machine reportedly features Redline brakes, ADC oil filter system, smoke system, custom Beech 18 cowling, original data plate, thorough maintenance records and complete logs dating back to the factory test flight, including Naval logs.
