Nearing Completion, P-39 Project Makes First Outing Into Sunshine Since WW2

Yesterday, Pioneer Aero, Ltd. of Ardmore, New Zealand reported the first outing of their P-39 project into the sunshine “wings on, wheels down” since WW2.

The project (42-20341) is reportedly based largely on an ex-Soviet Air Force P-39Q which was recovered around 1995, although it is also said to feature parts obtained from P-39Q 42-20341. The machine is reportedly owned by Jerry Yagen / Military Aviation Museum and is being restored to airworthy condition as USAAC 220341.

Arma Hobby to Release New Tool Hawker Hurricane Mk 1

Arma Hobby has announced the upcoming release of a new tool Hawker Hurricane Mk 1 model kit in 1/72 scale.

The kit will reportedly feature a detailed interior and wheel bays, open or closed canopy display, an optional tropical version, two types of propeller blades, three types of spinners and photo etched details. The kit will also be released in junior and expert editions, with the latter offering cockpit and wheel masks and “significant” photo-etched plates. Decal options will reportedly include “Aces as Urbanowicz, Zumbach, Frantisek and others.”

Former Macaws BAC Jet Provost Mk IV Offered For Sale

A Rolls Royce Viper-powered BAC Jet Provost Mk IV has hit the market.

The machine (S/N XR-701) is said to have been assigned to the British College of Air Warfare and was a member of the MACAWS flight demonstration team. It reportedly “flies great” and includes “complete logs since new including military logs.”

Additional features reportedly include a Garmin radio and PS Engineering intercom and “very original” interior with intact seats and chutes (seats have been deactivated but are believed to be complete).

The aircraft is said to have amassed a TTIS of 5,940 hrs. It is currently based in Sugar Land, Texas and is being offered for US $26,000. Click here to check out the complete listing on eBay.

Aeroplane Heaven Offers New Look At Upcoming Heinkel HE 111 P-2

Flight simulation developer Aeroplane Heaven has released new renderings of their upcoming Heinkel HE 111 P-2 for FSX/SE, P3DV3+ and P3DV4+.

As previously reported, this will be the team’s second version of the WW2 German medium bomber, having previously included an example of the type in a Battle of Britain package created for CFS3.

The new images show the machine’s exterior ready for paint. A release date has not yet been announced. Click below to check out additional images.

F-104G Starfighter Cockpit Offered For Sale

An Lockheed F-104G Starfighter cockpit project has hit the market.

The section was reportedly constructed as an Air Force simulator using all original F-104 parts. A “good chunk”of the parts needed to complete the project are said to be provided, including the entire pedestal, side sheet metal panels and plastic/fiberglass cockpit trim panels. The listing states:

Additionally, I have sourced the remainder of the parts (seat, canopy glass, main panel, and some odds and ends) from 2 different sources and will pass that info along to the buyer. It goes without saying that those parts are not part of this deal, but I am happy to share that contact info if the buyer is interested in it. The price for those parts is very reasonable.

Fokker Dr.1 Reproduction OK-UAA 90 Offered For Sale

A Fokker Dr.1 reproduction bearing Czech registration OK-UAA 90 has reportedly hit the market.

The 125 hp Verner Scarlett 07-powered aircraft reportedly performed its maiden flight in 2015 and is said to have 160 flight hours. It is currently located in Praha, Czech Republic and is being offered for $70,000.

Lancaster FM104 to Relocate to British Columbia, Airworthy Restoration to Follow

The British Columbia Aviation Museum in North Saanich, Canada has announced the acquisition of Avro Lancaster FM104 from the city of Toronto.

The bomber was originally built by Victory Aircraft of Malton, Ontario in 1944 and installed along Toronto’s waterfront following its retirement from the RCAF in 1964. Now in need of extensive restoration, the machine has spent recent years in storage at Edenvale Aerodrome west of Barrie while its future became the focus of debate.

The Lancaster will be relocated to the museum, located near Victoria International Airport, over the next few months. Restoration will reportedly commence immediately with the goal of returning the machine to airworthy condition in partnership with the a team of vintage aircraft restorers at Victoria Air Maintenance.

BC Aviation Museum President John Lewis states: “I am pleased that many local aircraft manufacturing specialists and vintage aircraft enthusiasts have pledged their time and knowledge to volunteer on this project. Many people at the BC Aviation Museum and the Victoria aviation community have worked hard to make today’s announcement possible. We are now looking forward to the day when Lancaster FM104 goes on display at our museum.”

Eduard to Release New Tool Bf 109 G-10 Mtt Regensburg

Eduard has announced the upcoming release of a new tool ProfiPACK edition model kit of the Bf 109 G-10 in 1/48 scale.

The kit (82119) will focus on “aircraft produced by the Messerschmitt factory in Regensburg” and will reportedly include five decal options which can be seen below, along with newly released images of the kit’s contents.

The Bf 109 G-10 is currently slated for release in August.

Mosquito Pathfinder Trust to Return Wooden Wonder to UK Skies by 2020

The Mosquito Pathfinder Trust has announced “a commercial understanding with the Aircraft Restoration Company (ARC)” to “provide the suite of Engineering and Design Services” for a de Havilland Mosquito airframe that will be brought to airworthy condition before being transferred to the UK.

The machine in question has been under construction by Glyn Powell and is currently said to be 50% complete. The project is based on the remains of NZ2308, which was originally constructed at Bankstown near Sydney as an early model FB.40. It was initially allocated RAAF serial A52-20 before being converted to a T.43 dual control trainer and given the serial A52-1054. In 1947, the machine was acquired by the Royal New Zealand Air Force with less than 20 hrs of service time. Now identified as NZ2308, the Mosquito entered service with 75 Squadron at Ohakea and performed “numerous exercises and aerial demonstrations all over New Zealand.”

The aircraft was declared surplus in 1955 and sold to a private owner. Over the following years it languished outdoors until it was recovered by Powell, who spent the next 20 years working on the project, which included the scratch-built construction of an entirely new wooden airframe. Potez 63-11 Reproduction Offered For Sale

A reproduction of the unique Potez 63-11 French twin-engine WW2 reconnaissance aircraft has hit the market.

The example of the type, which was introduced in the late 1930s and once deemed “the fastest observation airplane in the world,” was reportedly constructed from original blueprints by Jean-Marie Garric beginning in 2005. It is powered by Pratt & Whitney R-985 engines and is equipped with three seats and dual controls.
