An example of the Norden bombsight, described as “perhaps the most iconic ww2 aircraft component,” has hit the market.

The artifact is touted as original and in excellent condition, with no noticeable flaws apart from a section of the data plate being marked out. It reportedly comes complete with stand and is located in Santa Rosa, California.

90% Complete Stewart S-51 Turbine Mustang Project Offered For Sale

A Stewart S-51 Mustang project has hit the market.

The aircraft is reportedly 90% complete with a 601D Walters turbine engine and Avia propeller. Workmanship is described as “excellent,” and was reportedly carried out by a “previous Oshkosh winner.” The machine is said to offer complete, updated landing gear and almost all the parts needed to finish.

The aircraft can reportedly be flying in six months and is currently located in Bethlehem, Connecticut. It is being offered for US$162,500, although specific trades will reportedly be considered and bids starting at $135,000 are also being accepted. Packard-Built Merlin Parts Engine Offered For Sale

A Packard-built Rolls Royce Merlin Model V1650-7 is being offered as a parts engine.

The powerplant S/N V-332734 was reportedly acquired around 2000 from the New England Air Museum and likely came from the Air National Guard at Bradley Field in Windsor Locks, CT. It reportedly spent significant time in poor storage conditions and is described as “used” and “incomplete.”

Heads are missing as is most of the intake system within the V. Carburetor and Magnetos are also missing as are some external engine accessories which can be noted from the pictures, Cylinders are very rusty as engine was poorly stored with the heads off. The engine does not turn. The left cylinder bank was unbolted and lifted up about 0.75″ from the crankcase. Right cylinder bank is still directly on the crankcase. Accelerator linkage bolted to supercharger casting at rear of engine is very rusty and frozen.

Race 232, “World’s Fastest Sea Fury” Offered For Sale

Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 N232MB, a 2006 National Champion and winner of Reno Unlimited Gold, has hit the market.

Dubbed “world’s fastest Sea Fury,” the aircraft reportedly received a full restoration to 0 time condition as well as a modification to Unlimited Air Racer configuration by Sanders Aeronautics in 1998. These modifications were said to be done “to enable the airframe to be returned to stock condition.”

The machine was originally built as a Mk 11 in September 1947 with a Bristol Centaurus engine, however, this was replaced during restoration with a Curtis Wright R-3350-93 (currently in need of overhaul), a process that is said to have included the installation of a custom engine mount. Additional work reportedly included a boil-off heat exchange system, new oil and fuel lines and new instruments and wiring. In addition, the wing inlets on the left side were sealed in an effort to reduce drag, and a racing canopy was designed to replace the stock unit.

The machine is reportedly offered with two sets of wings: 1 set stock wings (installed) and 1 set of clipped Sea Fury wings for racing. Race 232 is currently available for $750,000. Click here to check out the complete listing.

W.A.R. Corsair Project Offered For Sale

A reduced-scale W.A.R. Corsair project has hit the market.

The machine is said to come with a new, custom-made canopy still in its original wrapping as well as most of the drawings. The retract gear is described as “tested and working” although the outer spars have been removed and the aircraft is reportedly in need of a gear drive motor and minor wood work.

“Very Rare” Douglas AD-4W Skyraider Project Offered For Sale

Douglas AD-4W Skyraider S/N 7946 has hit the market.

The machine reportedly performed its maiden flight in 1952 and went on to serve with 849 Squadron A Flight as 309/J and B Flight as 431/V. It was struck off charge in 1962 and refurbished for use as a target-towing machine, returning to the air in 1963. Later, the aircraft would be stored at North Weald before being acquired by Erickson Air-Crane and transported to Chino Airport in California. The current owner reportedly acquired 7946 in 1991.

The machine is said to have “no damage history” and is “ready for restoration.” It is currently located in Canada and pricing is available upon request. Click here to check out the complete listing.

Former South African Air Force SNJ Trainer Offered For Sale

A former South African Air Force SNJ-3 has hit the market.

The aircraft (S/N 78-7185 / N7655S) is described as a “a true barn find” and reportedly had its last annual in 2005. It is touted as wearing original SAAF military training colors, including the original green cockpit with gray updated panels. The airframe is said to have 8,300 hrs total time since new, while the engine and prop each have 800 hrs SMOH by SAAF.

The machine reportedly includes an avionics package and logs (including SAAF military) and is located in Rockford, Illinois. It is currently being offered for $110,000. Click here to check out the complete listing.

Running, Ex-Grumman Avenger Curtiss-Wright R2600 Display Engine Offered For Sale

A running, 1,900 hp Curtiss Wright Twin Cyclone R2600-20 display engine has hit the market.

This particular R2600 is said to have powered a Grumman Avenger that performed a forced landing following power loss in 1999. The engine was reportedly spared from serious damage, while the cause of the incident “seemed to be fuel related.” After 12 years in storage, the powerplant was reportedly taken apart down to the case, cleaned, inspected and put back together for use as a ground running display.

Propeller is a Hamilton Standard, blades are actually from a DC3 and shortened to a diameter of 82″. Engine has all standard carb, magnetos, starter, fuel and oil pumps as would have been on the Avenger, exhaust and engine mount are also standard from the airplane. The custom built trailer is engineer designed and professionally built, axels are rubber bumper type 3500lbs each with brakes on one axel. Fuel and oil tanks are custom made TIG welded aluminum, 10 gal fuel and 20 gallons oil, the fuel is enough for 20 minutes of running. Two large 12V truck batteries in series for 24V will give many starts prior to recharging.

The engine reportedly “runs great” and had about 218 hrs since overhaul prior to the crash. However, the seller states “I might get asked if it’s airworthy, not without an overhaul.”
