Full-Scale SE.5a Project For Sale: “No Expense Spared, Includes Engine”

A full-scale SE.5a project has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):

This “full scale SE 5a” project has been under construction for the past three years, engineered by a builder with 30 years of experience and a former career USAF pilot… This particular version is the two-seat trainer of which approximately 95 were originally placed into service… This project includes: fuselage, built with prime Sitka spruce and aircraft grade aluminum, engine, and all working dual cockpit controls and instruments. The interiors are complete and the engine runs like a clock.

Fuselage is constructed primarily of wood with improved sprung landing gear, original-style spoke wheels with aluminum covers, hydraulic brakes, and sprung steerable tail wheel. Much improved wing spar attachment for removal of wings, complete rigging kit with pre-made wires, turnbuckles, stainless fitting, etc.

Engine: modified GM-V6 rated at 245 H.P. with custom engineered aluminum housing gear reduction drive, internal chain in oil bath, 1:6 designed for up to 350 H.P. and wood propeller of 94″. Engine is carburetored with HEI ignition, custom exhaust stacks with mufflers as per original. Fuel: 12 gallon main tank, 5 gallon top wing reserve and panel reserve valve.

Many extras included: custom-built Lewis, scale machine-gun, exact copy non-firing, 1/3 scale drawings, notes, photos, historical archives. Wings must be constructed. This project is LSA compliant. This is an All metal 7/8 scale SE5 biplane replica from replica plans kit company. It’s a part 103 ultralight fly with just your drivers license. Flys great has about 40 hours on it total time. It’s Been away since last season but Shes Almost ready to fly and can be ready in a day. Has Electric start 2 stroke international 40hp engine with bing carb, 5 gallon fuel tank and it has nav/strobe lights. It Needs a 72” prop and needs a tube for one tire to be flyable put the wings on and go! She has a couple dings in the cowl and Could use some paint touch ups to be perfect.

It has a data plate, which is about all we know about this aircraft. This aircraft is abandoned and we need to dispose of it. Make and offer and arrange shipping and it is yours. As an A&P, I have done a cursory inspection and the workmanship looks decent. I have not thoroughly inspected the interior. The aircraft does not have an engine or propeller… We will assist with disassembly and shipping, which would need to be arranged with the buyer.

TVAL Offers Additional WW1 Aircraft, Rotary Engines For Sale

New Zealand-based aircraft manufacturer The Vintage Aviator, Ltd. has expanded its list of machines for sale, with offerings now including four WW1 aircraft reproductions and two rotary engine types.

In addition to the Hispano-Suiza-powered SE.5a and Le Rhone-powered Sopwith Pup listed in November, TVAL is now offering RAF1a-powered BE.2e G-CJZP, which has amassed a total time of 42 hours, and Bentley B.R.2-powered Sopwith Snipe G-CKBB (pictured above) which represents F2367 of 70 Squadron.

TVAL has also expanded their inventory to include powerplants, and is currently offering a limited number of reproduction 110 hp Le Rhone and 230 hp Bentley B.R.2 rotary engines.

Airworthy TVAL SE5a, Sopwith Pup Reproductions Offered For Sale

New Zealand-based aircraft manufacturer The Vintage Aviator, Ltd. is offering two of their exquisite airworthy WW1 aircraft reproductions for sale.

The first is a Hispano-Suiza-powered SE5a in 60 Squadron markings. The listing states (in part):

With extensive research and skilled craftsmanship we have built an accurate RAF Se5a reproduction. Every bit of detail you would have found in an original, you’ll find in this example. Completed in 2006 with 80 hours worth of flight time, this aircraft has been well looked after and professionally maintained by our staff at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton New Zealand.

The second machine is is a recently completed Sopwith Pup in RNAS markings which has “only just finished its airworthiness program ” and is “near new.” The aircraft is reportedly equipped with an original 80 hp Le Rhone engine that has been restored to an airworthy condition.
