Tamiya is working to release a new tool F-14D Tomcat model kit in 1/72 scale. The kit (60795) is described as one of the “most detailed modern plane kits” the company has produced, and reportedly includes:
• 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit. Wingspan: 272mm, fuselage length: 265mm.
• Variable sweeping wings are depicted!
• Distinct parts – interchangeable after completion – depict sealing plates and air bags with the wing in various positions.
• Canopy, air intake side sections and fuselage sides are slide molded to ensure their shapes and surfaces are accurately depicted.
• Horizontal stabilizers move thanks to poly caps.
• The modeler has a choice of open and closed fuel probe (on the right of the nose) and boarding ladder and step (on fuselage left).
• Parts are included for recreating laser-guided bombs, LANTIRN pod and air-to-air missiles.
• The model comes with 2 seated crew figures and 5 U.S. Navy marking options.
The new offering is said to shrink the incredible detail of the company’s previously released 1/48 kit (61118) into a “compact, streamlined build.” As of this writing, a release date has not yet been announced. Click below to check out additional renderings.

The V-tail airframe has been the recipient of upgrades too numerous to mention, some from the factory, others from the aftermarket by S.T.C., designed to make the airplane faster, fly farther, be quieter and more comfortable, and be safer… Number one on most speed freak lists is the IO-520BB engine installation! The engine installed was rebuilt by Ultimate Engines of Mena, Arkansas, in 2000 with new cylinders, GAMI fuel injectors, and flow-balanced cylinders. Time since major overhaul now is 1,536. Unfortunately, this aircraft suffered damage when the pilot broke ground and folded the gear, then settled back onto the grass runway and landed gear up. Unlike a gear up on asphalt, the belly is not scraped up, but several belly skins are dented and wrinkled. Sold with logbooks for the airframe since day one in 1959 to the present, plus a large amount of supporting paperwork, including S.T.C.s, POH, and flight manual, and the engine logs since the very detailed overhaul, and the prop log.
The aircraft is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is currently available for US $16,950, although bids are also being accepted. Click here to check out the eBay listing, which includes many additional details (including damage overview) and photos.

This aircraft was restored in 1999, including complete recover with Stits Polyfiber and repaint with Imron in white, black, red, and gold. It still looks great. Used about 40 hours per year for the last 10 years as the owner’s practical but fun airplane. Unfortunately, after landing and during taxi earlier this year, the right landing gear shock strut broke, allowing the right main gear to bow outwards, which allowed the right wing tip to touch the ground, the right entry step to push backward slightly, and the tips of the fixed pitch prop to bend slightly. No other damage occurred, and the owner of the airplane made a repair on the shock strut so the airplane now rolls around fine. The O-300 engine installed here has only 422 hours since major overhaul in 2012. At the overhaul, all six cylinders were replaced with new Millenniums, new Slick mags, and a high-torque pushbutton starter. The engine is also alternator equipped. Sold with logbooks for the airframe and engine since new, as well as lots of nice additional paperwork.
The aircraft is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is currently available for US $11,950, although bids are also being accepted. Click here to check out the eBay listing, which includes many additional photos and details.

Casemate is about to release author Tim Hillier-Graves’s new book The Vought F4U Corsair in The War Against Japan: A Photographic Record of the 15th Naval Fighter Wing at War 1944-5 .
By mid-1944, the Allies, especially the United States, began preparing for a potential invasion of Japan. Churchill expected the Royal Navy to support the U.S. Navy in achieving aerial dominance. The Admiralty focused on strengthening its carrier forces, forming the 15th Naval Fighter Wing. However, a key question arose: which aircraft would the Wing use?
The Supermarine Seafire lacked the necessary range and endurance for Pacific operations, while Hellcats were in short supply and prioritized for U.S. use. This left the Vought F4U Corsair as the best option. Although initially dismissed due to its poor safety record on carriers, the Corsairs were eagerly acquired by the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, so relieving the US Navy of this controversial aircraft until its problems could be sorted out.
The 15th Naval Fighter Wing, initially comprising Nos. 1830, 1831, and 1833 squadrons, became the first carrier based unit to successfully deploy the Corsair at sea. Despite early losses, British and Commonwealth pilots demonstrated its effectiveness, eventually convincing even the skeptical U.S. Navy of its capabilities. The Corsair proved to be one of the war’s most effective fighters.
Led by Battle of Britain ace Dickie Cork until his death in 1944, the Wing achieved notable successes against Japanese forces aboard HMS Illustrious.
This 152 page book draws on accounts from 20 veterans and extensive archives to highlight the Corsair’s transformation into a legendary naval fighter and the pilots’ indomitable spirit. It is currently available for pre-order with release set for November 25.
