First Look: Airfix’s Upcoming Vickers Wellington GR Mk.VIII

Airfix has announced the upcoming release of a 1/72 Vickers Wellington GR Mk.VIII, a type which was “specifically built for Coastal Command duties and equipped with new equipment designed to detect and destroy U-Boats.”

The upcoming kit (A08020) is reportedly based on the new tool Wellington Mk.IA/C (A08019) released last year and will include additional part frames for the GR Mk.VIII variant. Newly released 3D CAD images show the installation of some of the additional parts including Leigh Lights – which are described as “a fascinating aspect of the air war during WWII and one which made a significant contribution to the Battle of the Atlantic.”

Two different versions of the variant can be represented, including HX379 of 172 Squadron, which includes a “the full antenna array which was a feature of the ASV Mk.II radar equipment installation and has the front turret removed and glazed over.” The second livery option represents HX485 of 38 Squadron, which displays the full ASV Mk.II radar antenna array but retains its front turret.

Airfix Releases New Tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV Model Kit

Airfix has released its new tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV model kit in 1/48 scale.

The kit (A05135) was developed with the aid of “a vast collection of research materials, original drawings and photographs relating to Spitfire production” as well as computer base model shape data from their Spitfire Mk.1 kit released in 2014.

Two liveries are included which represent TZ112 and NH902 VC-P ‘Lazy Lady V’, flown by Squadron Leader James Bernard Prendergast of 414 Squadron, RCAF.

Airfix Announces Release Date For 1/24 F6F Hellcat

In a recent announcement, Airfix revealed that their highly anticipated new tool 1/24 F6F-5 Hellcat model kit will be released on June 21.

As previously reported, the model was originally announced at the Telford model show in November. It will reportedly include over 600 parts with full cockpit detail; a complete, fully detailed radial engine, engine mount and all ancillaries; separate engine cowling and forward fuselage panels; detailed undercarriage, undercarriage bays and arrestor hook; fully detailed gun bays with complete machine guns and ammunition trays and realistic surface detailing showing rivets, fasteners and rippled stressed skin. Drop tanks (2 types), 250lb and 500lb bombs and rockets are also included.

The kit is also touted as offering the options to display the wings extended or folded, the canopy open or closed and the landing gear and flaps either extended or retracted. Four livery options are also included, profiles of which can be seen below.

Airfix Releases First Images of New Tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV in “Lead Scheme”

Airfix has released an update on its upcoming new tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV in 1/48 scale.

The update offers the first images of the completed model wearing its “lead scheme option” representing NH902 VC-P ‘Lazy Lady V’, flown by Squadron Leader James Bernard Prendergast of 414 Squadron, RCAF. This particular livery was worn by the machine when Prendergast scored his double Fw 190 kill on May 2, 1945 and when he was flying on VE Day.

The kit (A05135) was developed with the aid of “a vast collection of research materials, original drawings and photographs relating to Spitfire production” as well as computer base model shape data from their Spitfire Mk.1 kit released in 2014. A second livery representing TZ112 will also be included.

Airfix Illustrates Wing Folding Feature on Upcoming Blackburn Buccaneer Kit

Airfix has released a new series of images offering a glimpse at the wing folding feature on its upcoming Blackburn Buccaneer S Mk.2 kit in 1/72 scale.

The kit (A06021) was reportedly designed to be “a highly accurate scale representation of this famous aircraft” which will include parts to model the aircraft with its wings extended for flight or raised for carrier stowage.

To illustrate this feature, Airfix designer Matt produced a quick sample build consisting of test frame components from the first plastic injection through the new mold. The resulting photos can be seen below.

First Look: Test Sprues For Airfix’s New Tool MiG-17F Fresco

Airfix has released a new series of images featuring test frames for their upcoming Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-17F model kit (A03091) in 1/72 scale.

The representation of the iconic cold war jet was reportedly produced utilizing scan data from a restored example of the type as well as research visits that allowed the team to check of specific details and capture many reference photos.

The newly released images show the first test frames for the upcoming kit, and although the company states that this latest new tooling project is “advancing nicely towards its scheduled release date,” it emphasizes that the frames are “very much at the development stage and still represent a relatively early stage in this process.”

First Look: Test Sprues For Airfix’s New Tool Blackburn Buccaneer

Airfix has released a new series of images featuring test frames for their upcoming Blackburn Buccaneer S Mk.2 model kit (A06021) in 1/72 scale.

The representation of “one of the world’s most accomplished low level strike jets” was reportedly on the company’s most requested list for some time and is now said to be “advancing nicely towards its scheduled release date.”

The newly released images show “all the major parts and illustrates how the new kit will come together as a build project.” Every aspect of the parts will reportedly be inspected and assessed, which could lead to a schedule of refinements being produced. A test build will then follow.

Airfix Announces Upcoming B-25B Mitchell Model Kit

Airfix has announced the upcoming release of a new B-25B Mitchell model kit in 1/72 scale.

The kit (A06020) is reportedly based on the new tool B-25C/D kit released last year, but will include “new decals and parts” for the B-25B, including “Hari Kari-er” which was one of the Doolittle raiders.

Airfix Releases New Tool Hawker Sea Fury “Export Edition” Model Kit

Airfix has released its new tool Hawker Sea Fury FB11 “Export Edition” model kit in 1/48 scale.

The kit (A06106) represents “the last in an illustrious line of Hawker piston engined fighters” which went on to serve in Holland, Australia and Canada, becoming one of the fastest propeller driven aircraft ever produced.

The offering reportedly boasts three livery options: “Scheme 1: VW645 Sydney August 1955; Scheme 2: FB11 803 Squadron Royal Canadian Navy 1948; Scheme 3: Sea Fury FB. MK50 no860 Squadron Royal Dutch Navy – Aerobats.”

Airfix To Release New Tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV Model Kit

On Moday, Airfix added their 2019 range of products to their website, providing an excellent look at some exciting new tool kits, such as their upcoming 1/24 F6F Hellcat and this 1/48 Spitfire FR Mk.XIV.

As previously reported, the kit (A05135) was developed with the aid of “a vast collection of research materials, original drawings and photographs relating to Spitfire production” as well as computer base model shape data from their Spitfire Mk.1 kit released in 2014. The new listing suggests that liveries will be included for NH902 “Lazy Lady V,” and TZ112, although the company points out that colors and contents of products may vary.
