Airfix Releases Renderings, Liveries For Upcoming New Tool DH Mosquito B Mk.XVI

Airfix has provided new details on their forthcoming new tool De Havilland Mosquito B Mk.XVI in 1/72 scale.

The kit (A04023) represents the the final major bomber variant of the type and reportedly utilizes “all the latest design and manufacturing technologies available” to the team. It is currently “advancing apace” with release expected sometime this summer.

The latest information details the two liveries to be included with the kit: ML963/8K-K of RAF No.571 Squadron, No.8 (Pathfinder) Group and ML957/HS-D of RAF No.109 Squadron.

Eduard to Release New Hawker Tempest Mk.II (Early) Model Kit

In August, Eduard will release a new ProfiPACK edition Hawker Tempest Mk.II (Early Version) model kit in 1/48 scale.

The kit (82124) focuses on aircraft in RAF service and reportedly includes Eduard sprues, pre-painted photo-etched parts, a painting mask and marking options for six machines.

First Look: Sprue Shots for Airfix’s New Tool DH Vampire F.3

Airfix has shared the first sprue photos for their upcoming new tool de Havilland Vampire model kit in 1/48 scale.

The upcoming kit (A06107) is comprised of 123 parts with plastic sprues and three marking options. The newly released images represent parts that are still in the development stage, although it is reportedly “nicely on track and advancing towards release later in the year” (this autumn). The next stage of the process will be test building of sections and a full kit build.

Airfix to Release B-17G Kit With Two New Liveries

Airfix will be releasing their 1/72 B-17G with two new liveries this coming fall.

The new offering (A08017B) is reporteldy based on the B-17G released as a new tool kit in 2016 (A08017). It will include representations of 43-37756 Milk Wagon of 708th Bomb Squadron, 447th Bomb Group and 43-38728 $5 with Breakfast of 851st Bomb Squadron, 490th Bomb Group. The kit reportedly spans 254mm and includes sprues and decals with a total of 245 parts.

Modelsvit Shares Sprue Shots of “First 3D Designed” Yak-9D

Modelsvit is gearing up to release their new Yak-9D model kit in 1/48 scale.

The offering (4809) is described as the “first 3D designed Yak-9D,” being made from “completely new molds” and offering “higher accuracy” and “high level quality.” The kit spans 203mm, measures 179mm in length and boasts 123 parts. It appears that it will include adhesive masks as well as photo-etched parts.

Revell Commemorates DH Sea Vixen’s 70th Anniversary With New Release

Revell is commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the de Havilland Sea Vixen with a model kit release in 1/72 scale.

The Sea Vixen was the aircraft of British naval aviators for 20 years and the first in the world to have its Arrow wings were foldable for use on aircraft carriers. In 1964, the Fleet Air Arm introduced FAW 2, a much-improved version of the Sea Vixen equipped with modern air-to-air missiles.

The offering (03866) is reportedly based on the Cyber Hobby FAW.1 (5051) that was released as a new tool kit in 2011. The new kit represents the FAW.2 and is described as highly detailed with extensive external loads and many details in the cockpit. Two liveries are included: Sea Vixen FAW2, 890NAS, RNAS Yeovilton, England, July 1971; Sea Vixen FAW2, 899NAS, HMS Eagle, November 1970.

First Look: Test Build Photos of Airfix’s Upcoming New Tool DH Mosquito

Airfix has released the first full kit build images of their upcoming new tool DH Mosquito B.XVI.

The 1/72 offering (A04023) is still “very much in development” and the photos show the kit constructed from test frames, which are the subject of ongoing refinement and modification. The final product will reportedly boast a wingspan of 229 mm and include plastic parts and marking options for two machines: ML963 and ML957.

First Look: Tamiya’s New Tool F-4B Phantom II Model Kit

Tamiya has released a flood of new details about their upcoming new tool F-4B Phantom II model kit, including a video overview of the kit’s contents and a release timeframe.

The 1/48 offering (61121) is reportedly based on “exhaustive studies of the actual aircraft” resulting in a “precise recreation of the distinctive form.”

The parts breakdown offers ease of assembly. J79-GE-8 engine nozzles, cockpit, and landing gear bays are realistically recreated. Choose between folded and extended wingtips. One-piece horizontal stabilizer right and left sides move in concert. Choose between open and closed canopy, and extended and retracted refueling probe/boarding ladder. Different types of antennae and cockpit consoles can be chosen depending on the marking option selected. Air-to-air missiles (AIM-7E Sparrow and AIM-9G/H Sidewinder) and two types of drop tanks are included. Includes 2 sitting crew figures, 3 marking options, and masking stickers.

Marking options represent VF-51 “Screaming Eagles,” VF-111 “Sundowners” and VF-161 “Chargers” (Wing Commander’s Aircraft). The kit is currently due out in June. Click below to check out additional images as well as a newly released video overview of the kit.
