Eduard Releases New Bf 109F-2 Model Kit

New this month from Eduard is a Weekend Edition Bf 109F-2 model kit in 1/48 scale.

The Bf 109F-2 was an early “Friedrich” variant of Germany’s famous Messerschmitt fighter, introduced in 1941 with a much cleaner airframe, refined aerodynamics, and a more powerful DB 601N engine. It was widely regarded as one of the best-handling and best-performing 109s, though its concentrated nose armament of one 15 mm cannon and two machine guns gave it less total firepower than some earlier versions.

The new kit (84212) includes Eduard plastic parts and decals with marking options for four aircraft: W.Nr. 12914, Oblt. Wolfgang Späte, 5./JG 54; W.Nr. 8239, Lt. Hans Strelow, 5./JG 51; W.Nr. 8165, Hptm. Karl-Heinz Leesmann, CO of I./JG 52; Hptm. Hans Hahn, CO of III./JG 2.

Arma Hobby Announces “Next Generation, Highly Accurate” P-51D VLR Kit

Arma Hobby has announced the upcoming release of a new P-51D Mustang “Very Long Range” model kit in 1/72 scale.

The VLR – Very Long Range standard included additional fuel tanks as well as revised radio and navigation equipment, making long over-water missions possible. The typical escort configuration used 110-gallon underwing tanks, giving sufficient range for flights from Iwo Jima to Tokyo and back. These tanks were characteristic of Pacific operations and differed from the more common European configurations.

Described as a “modern next-generation Arma Hobby kit” and a “highly accurate” representation, the offering (70073) includes an additional VLR sprue with Pacific-specific equipment: 110-gallon underwing drop tanks, 150-gallon streamlined drop tanks from the P-38 Lightning, and rockets for strike missions. Additional features include a detailed cockpit, canopy masks and high-quality Cartograf decals with marking options for two aircraft: “Snortin’ Phyllie” (1st Lt. Herb Straughn, 531st Fighter Squadron, 21st Fighter Group) and “Little One” (1st Lt. Francis J. Pilecki, 458th Fighter Squadron, 506th Fighter Group). The kit also features a free 3D file with seat with harness, exhaust pipes, and gun barrels.

Roden Releases New Fairchild C-123 Provider Model Kit

Roden has released a new Fairchild C-123 Provider model kit in 1/72 scale.

The Fairchild C-123 Provider was a rugged American post WW2 military transport aircraft designed for short-field operations, with a large cargo ramp and the ability to carry troops, cargo, and wounded personnel into small or unprepared airstrips. Built by Fairchild and used by the U.S. Air Force, Coast Guard, and several foreign air forces, it saw especially heavy service in Vietnam in roles ranging from airlift and medevac to defoliation and special operations support.

ICM Releases New Late-Production HP.52 Hampden “Churchill’s Flying Suitcase” Kit

ICM has released their new, late-production HP.52 Hampden (Churchill’s “Flying Suitcase) model kit in 1/48 scale.

The HP.52 Hampden was a British twin-engine RAF medium bomber whose unusually narrow, deep fuselage gave it the famous nickname “Churchill’s flying suitcase” or simply the “Flying Suitcase.” It entered service in 1938, saw early World War II bombing and maritime strike duties, and was remembered for being fast and effective but extremely cramped for its four-man crew.

As previously reported, the release (48354) continues ICM’s recent line of Hampden kits and faithfully preserves the geometry and proportions of the original aircraft. It includes rivet detail on the fuselage, wings and tail surfaces, marking options for four aircraft and multiple bomb types that can be positioned in the bomb bay or under the wings.

Italeri Releases CANT Z.1007 Alcione Kit With Six New Liveries

Italeri has released a new boxing of their CANT Z.1007bis Alcione model kit in 1/72 scale.

The CANT Z.1007 Alcione medium bomber, designed by Filippo Zappata, entered service in the late 1930s and was extensively used by the Regia Aeronautica during the Second World War. Characterized by a wooden structure, it featured the typical Italian three-engine configuration. More specifically, its three 1,000 hp Piaggio P.XI radial engines allowed the CANT Z.1007 to reach a maximum speed of 450 km/h. The aircraft could carry 1,200 kg of offensive payload housed in an internal bomb bay. The crew typically consisted of five men, which could increase to six with the addition of a photographic operator for reconnaissance and maritime patrol missions. It was mainly employed in the Mediterranean, Balkan, and North African theaters of operation and is often considered the best medium bomber of the Regia Aeronautica.

Italeri Releases Fw 190 A-7/A8 Focused on Luftwaffe Aces

Italeri has released a new boxing of their 1/72 Fw 190 A-7/A8 model kit focusing on Luftwaffe aces.

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the best aircraft designed during the Second World War. Produced in more than 20,000 units starting in 1941, it was, together with the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the most famous fighter of the Luftwaffe. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 was equipped with a BMW 801 D-2 twin-row, 14-cylinder radial engine delivering 1,700 hp, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 653 km/h. It was heavily armed with two MG 131 machine guns and four 20 mm MG 151 cannons. In the first months of 1944, the A-8 version entered production, featuring an injection system capable of increasing engine power to over 1,900 hp for short periods. The Luftwaffe’s best pilots flew the famous fighter during the Second World War.

Eduard Releases New “Weekend Edition” P-40N Model Kit

Another new release from Eduard for April is a Weekend Edition P-40N Warhawk model kit in 1/48 scale.

The Curtiss P‑40N was the final major production variant of the P‑40 fighter‑bomber, optimized for lighter weight, higher speed, and improved durability. Derivative of the earlier P‑36 and first flown in 1938, the all‑metal P‑40N typically carried six 0.50‑inch machine guns and could also carry light bombs, serving as both an air‑superiority fighter and ground‑attack aircraft. Though often outclassed by newer Axis fighters at higher altitudes, the P‑40N proved rugged and reliable in low‑ to medium‑altitude operations across multiple theaters, including North Africa, the Pacific, China, and the Soviet Union, and over 5,000 N‑models were built, making it the fastest and most numerous late‑Warhawk sub‑type.

The new release (84210) includes Eduard plastic parts and decals with marking options for four aircraft: P-40N-5, Lt. David R. Winternitz, 8th FS, 49th FG; P-40N-5, Lt. Col. Julian E. Eduard has released a new, limited edition “MIGHTY EIGHT: 65th Fighter Wing” P-51D Mustang kit in 1/48 scale.

MikroMir Releases New Junkers Ju-388 L-1 Model Kit

MikroMir has released a new Junkers Ju-388 L-1 model kit in 1/72 scale.

The Ju‑388 L‑1 was a late‑WW2 German high‑altitude reconnaissance variant of the Ju‑388 “Störtebeker.” Optimized for long‑range photo‑reconnaissance at high altitudes, the L‑1 featured a pressurized cockpit, a streamlined glazed nose for cameras, and powerful Jumo 213 engines that gave it speeds around 600–650 km/h (380–400 mph) and a service ceiling well above 12,000 m (40,000 ft). Like the rest of the Ju‑388 series, it entered service only in small numbers during the final phases of the war and saw limited combat, but one captured Ju‑388 L‑1 was later acquired by the United States and is now preserved in the National Air and Space Museum.

LukGraph Developing “Truly Special” 1/32 Ansaldo SVA-5 Model Kit

LukGraph has announced the development of a new Ansaldo SVA-5 model kit in 1/32 scale.

The SVA‑5 was the definitive production variant of Italy’s SVA family of single‑seat, single‑engine biplane reconnaissance and light‑bomber aircraft used during and after WW1. Derived from earlier SVA‑2/3/4 models, it featured a streamlined, plywood‑skinned fuselage, a 200 hp SPA 6A inline engine, and a distinctive Warren‑truss wing‑strut layout, giving it high speed and a long range that made it one of the fastest Allied combat aircraft of the war. Armed with two synchronized 7.7 mm Vickers machine guns and capable of carrying light bombs or reconnaissance cameras, the SVA‑5 served as a fast, high‑altitude scout and light bomber on the Italian Front, later seeing use in long‑range missions and limited export service into the mid‑1920s.

The upcoming kit will be released in two separate editions, the first focusing on Italian markings from the Great War period and the second representing an export version of the SVA-5, showcasing aircraft in Polish, American, Spanish, and Russian service. Premium versions will also be offered featuring decals with realistic fabric and wood effects. A 1/48 scale version may follow.
