Arma Hobby Announces New Curtiss Tomahawk IIb Model Kit

Arma Hobby has announced an upcoming Curtiss Tomahawk IIb model kit in 1/72 scale.

The Curtiss Tomahawk Mk IIB was the RAF designation for the Curtiss H81-A3, broadly equivalent to the U.S. P-40C Warhawk. An early-war, Allison-powered single-seat fighter, it retained the P-40’s rugged all-metal construction and distinctive chin radiator, while adding improved fuel protection, revised equipment, and provision for a drop tank; its armament comprised two .50-calibre machine guns in the nose and four .303-inch Brownings in the wings. Delivered from late 1940, the type served chiefly with RAF, SAAF, and other Commonwealth units in North Africa, where it was effective at low and medium altitude but outclassed at higher levels by contemporary German fighters; substantial numbers also went to the Soviet Union and China.

The upcoming kit (70095) is based on Arma’s recently released, new tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2. It includes canopy and wheel masks, Cartograf decals with three marking options and a code for downloading 3D-print files for the exhaust stacks, machine-gun barrels, gunsights and pilot’s seat with British harness. Shipping is currently planned for the third week of October.

Eduard Releases Limited Edition P-40N Representing 15,000th Curtiss Fighter

New for October is Eduard’s limited edition “15,000th” P-40N Warhawk model kit in 1/48 scale.

The kit (11193) includes Eduard plastic parts, pre-painted PE parts painting masks and Eduard decals. The livery represents the 15,000th Curtiss fighter, which was received by the USAAF on November 22, 1944 and decorated with the markings of twenty-eight countries that used Curtiss aircraft. As a bonus, the kit also includes a second livery representing the aircraft “O’Riley’s Daughter” flown by Capt. Philip E. Colman, 26th FS, 5th FG.

Arma Hobby Releases New Tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 “Flying Tigers”

Arma Hobby has released their new tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 model kit in 1/72 scale.

As previously reported, the release (70094) is the first in Arma’s new family of 1/72 Curtiss Hawk 81, Tomahawk II and P-40B/C kits. It represents the export version of the Hawk 81-A2 operated by the AVG in China during 1941–1942. These aircraft wore a distinctive camouflage scheme based on British specifications and applied using American-made DuPont paints.

The kit offers three Flying Tigers marking options, 3D printed parts and painting masks.

Aircraft Restoration Company Welcomes Maude P-40E: “Exciting Times Lay Ahead”

This week the Curtiss P-40E Kittyhawk known as the “Maude P-40” arrived at the Aircraft Restoration Company’s Duxford base.

The aircraft (S/N AK803) was delivered to the RCAF in October 1941 and based at an RCAF Station in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where it saw use in anti-submarine patrols. Later, it was flown 4,000 miles to Annette Island, Alaska (setting a record in the process) before moving on to Boundary Bay near Vancouver, British Columbia, where it performed fighter affiliation work with B-24s and B-25s. In 1946 it was acquired for $50 by George Maude, an RCAF veteran, who floated it on a makeshift log raft it to his family home.

The aircraft is now described as an in-house project owned by the Aircraft Restoration Company, which states:

It has long been a pipe dream to add a P-40 to the collection, and we have been following the journey of this particular one for over a decade. When it came onto the market, we felt it was now or never! Exciting times lay ahead

Eduard Releases Limited Edition, Dual Combo “Sharks and Stallions” P-40 / P-51 Kit

Among Eduard’s new September releases is a limited edition, dual combo “Sharks and Stallions” P-40N Warhawk and P-51B/C Mustang kit in 1/48 scale.

The new kit focuses on aircraft from the China, Barma and India Theater. In the CBI Theater, the P-40N Warhawk was a rugged, widely used fighter for escort, interception, reconnaissance, and low-level attacks against Japanese forces and supply routes. The later-arriving P-51B/C Mustang brought much greater speed, altitude capability, and range, allowing it to conduct long-range bomber escort and offensive sweeps over Burma and China as Allied operations expanded in 1944–45.

The offering (11200) features Eduard plastic parts, pre-painted PE parts, painting masks and Eduard decals with marking options for 8 aircraft (four each).

Eduard Releases New P-40K Warhawk (Short Tail) With PE Details, Six Liveries

Eduard has released a new ProfiPACK Edition P-40K Warhawk (Short Tail) model kit in 1/48 scale.

The P-40K “Short Tail” was an early-production form of Curtiss’s Allison-powered P-40K fighter, distinguished by the original short rear fuselage shared with the P-40E and a prominent dorsal fin fillet ahead of the vertical tail, added to counter the stronger engine’s directional-instability and torque effects. Powered by a 1,325-hp Allison V-1710-73, it was among the fastest P-40 variants to that point—about 370 mph at 20,000 feet. It retained the type’s rugged fighter-bomber character, typically with six .50-caliber machine guns. Beginning with the P-40K-10, Curtiss adopted the longer rear fuselage used on later P-40Fs, making the earlier K-1 and K-5 series the “short-tail” machines familiar to historians and modelers; It is also known as the Kittyhawk Mk III for Commonwealth-operated examples.

Eduard’s new release (82243) includes Eduard plastic parts, pre-painted PE parts, painting masks, and Eduard decals with six marking options.

First Look: Test Build of Arma Hobby’s New Tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2

Arma Hobby has released the first test build photos (and additional sprue shots) for their upcoming, new tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 model kit in 1/72 scale.

As previously reported, the upcoming release (70094) is the first in Arma’s new family of 1/72 Curtiss Hawk 81, Tomahawk II and P-40B/C kits. It represents the export version of the Hawk 81-A2 operated by the AVG in China during 1941–1942. These aircraft wore a distinctive camouflage scheme based on British specifications and applied using American-made DuPont paints. Three Flying Tigers marking options will be included.

The model seen in the new photos was built straight from the latest pre-production test parts and was quickly assembled and left completely unpainted for a more detailed look at the plastic itself. The company states that these are still pre-production parts, and final evaluation is underway.

Shipping is currently planned for the second half of August. Check out additional photos below.

Arma Hobby Releases Sprue Shots, Renderings For New Tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2

Arma Hobby has released the first teaser sprue shots for their upcoming new tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 model kit in 1/72 scale.

As previously reported, the upcoming release (70094) is the first in Arma’s new family of 1/72 Curtiss Hawk 81, Tomahawk II and P-40B/C kits. It represents the export version of the Hawk 81-A2 operated by the AVG in China during 1941–1942. These aircraft wore a distinctive camouflage scheme based on British specifications and applied using American-made DuPont paints. Three Flying Tigers marking options will be included.

The two new images show the first injection molded sprues for the kit, which are now being evaluated together with Arma’s tooling partner. If the evaluation confirms everything is on track, pre-orders are planned to open this week with shipping expected in the first half of August.

Special Hobby Releases Renderings, Markings for Upcoming TP-40N Kit

Special Hobby has revealed new renderings and marking options for their upcoming TP-40N model kit in 1/72 scale.

The TP-40N is a two-seat trainer conversion of the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. It keeps the P-40’s characteristic long nose and Allison V-1710 engine.

The company states that the decals for the upcoming release (72543) will feature three aircraft: olive/gray, natural metal, and olive with green spots/gray. The kit itself will combine plastic and 3D printed parts. Click below to check out additional images.

Arma Hobby to Release New Tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 With Flying Tigers Liveries

Arma Hobby has announced the upcoming release of a new tool Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 model kit in 1/72 scale.

Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 was one of the most recognizable versions of the Curtiss P-40 fighter, made famous by the pilots of the American Volunteer Group (AVG), known worldwide as the Flying Tigers. Their distinctive shark-mouth nose art, combat operations over China, and the tactics developed by General Claire Chennault made these aircraft icons of the early air war in the Far East.

The upcoming release (70094) is the first in Arma’s new family of 1/72 Curtiss Hawk 81, Tomahawk II and P-40B/C kits. It represents the export version of the Hawk 81-A2 operated by the AVG in China during 1941–1942. These aircraft wore a distinctive camouflage scheme based on British specifications and applied using American-made DuPont paints. Three Flying Tigers marking options will be included.
