Airfix Releases Giant 1/24 F6F-5 Hellcat Model Kit

Today, Airfix released its highly anticipated, new tool F6F-5 Hellcat model kit in a massive 1/24 scale.

As previously reported, the model was originally announced at the Telford model show in November 2018. It reportedly includes over 600 parts with full cockpit detail; a complete, fully detailed radial engine, engine mount and all ancillaries; separate engine cowling and forward fuselage panels; detailed undercarriage, undercarriage bays and arrestor hook; fully detailed gun bays with complete machine guns and ammunition trays and realistic surface detailing showing rivets, fasteners and rippled stressed skin. Drop tanks (2 types), 250lb and 500lb bombs and rockets are also included.

The kit (A19004) is also touted as offering four liveries and options to display the wings extended or folded, the canopy open or closed and the landing gear and flaps either extended or retracted.

First Look: Airfix’s Upcoming Vickers Wellington GR Mk.VIII

Airfix has announced the upcoming release of a 1/72 Vickers Wellington GR Mk.VIII, a type which was “specifically built for Coastal Command duties and equipped with new equipment designed to detect and destroy U-Boats.”

The upcoming kit (A08020) is reportedly based on the new tool Wellington Mk.IA/C (A08019) released last year and will include additional part frames for the GR Mk.VIII variant. Newly released 3D CAD images show the installation of some of the additional parts including Leigh Lights – which are described as “a fascinating aspect of the air war during WWII and one which made a significant contribution to the Battle of the Atlantic.”

Two different versions of the variant can be represented, including HX379 of 172 Squadron, which includes a “the full antenna array which was a feature of the ASV Mk.II radar equipment installation and has the front turret removed and glazed over.” The second livery option represents HX485 of 38 Squadron, which displays the full ASV Mk.II radar antenna array but retains its front turret.

Airfix Releases New Tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV Model Kit

Airfix has released its new tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV model kit in 1/48 scale.

The kit (A05135) was developed with the aid of “a vast collection of research materials, original drawings and photographs relating to Spitfire production” as well as computer base model shape data from their Spitfire Mk.1 kit released in 2014.

Two liveries are included which represent TZ112 and NH902 VC-P ‘Lazy Lady V’, flown by Squadron Leader James Bernard Prendergast of 414 Squadron, RCAF.

HpH Models Releases New Images of Massive 1/48 B-52 Kit

HpH Models has released new images of its upcoming B-52H Stratofortress in a massive 1/48 scale.

As previously reported, the kit is part of the company’s “extreme” line, which also includes a 1/48 B-36 Peacemaker. It will reportedly include fiberglass main assemblies, vacuum cast resin details and clear parts made of transparent resin. Also said to be included are photo-etched and metal parts, a wet transfer decal sheet and painting masks.

The kit (HPH 48052L) will contain a complete interior, undercarriage, open bomb bay and bomb racks with a basic armament fit. Extra accessories will also be released as separate sets that include a complete maximum payload of “steel bombs” (including their appropriate racks), ALCM cruise missiles (including the internal rotary launcher and external racks) and a huge landing flaps kit (it is necessary to order this kit simultaneously with the B-52 kit in order to prepare the basic wing parts for the flaps installation).

Airfix Releases First Images of New Tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV in “Lead Scheme”

Airfix has released an update on its upcoming new tool Spitfire FR Mk.XIV in 1/48 scale.

The update offers the first images of the completed model wearing its “lead scheme option” representing NH902 VC-P ‘Lazy Lady V’, flown by Squadron Leader James Bernard Prendergast of 414 Squadron, RCAF. This particular livery was worn by the machine when Prendergast scored his double Fw 190 kill on May 2, 1945 and when he was flying on VE Day.

The kit (A05135) was developed with the aid of “a vast collection of research materials, original drawings and photographs relating to Spitfire production” as well as computer base model shape data from their Spitfire Mk.1 kit released in 2014. A second livery representing TZ112 will also be included.

Modelsvit Reveals Design For Upcoming P-51H Kit

Modelsvit has announced that the design process for their upcoming P-51H Mustang has been accomplished.

The company states that the 1/48 kit will include “2 cockpit’s clear parts (Open/Closed canopy), flaps could be adjusted in 2 possitions.” Additional details remain scarce, although a number of screenshots have been released, additional examples of which can be seen below.

A previous report indicated that the model would be released sometime in 2019.

Copper State’s New Handley Page O/400 Kit “On The Finish Line”

Copper State Models has announced that their upcoming Handley Page O/400 kit “is on the finish line.”

The company states that all the parts for the 1/48 resin kit are molded and cast and that masks are cut. They are currently waiting on the printing of the kit’s decals, which is estimated at three weeks.

The offering was prepared “in the best possible way” and reportedly includes more than 1.5kg of resin, more than 2m of wire to reinforce struts/wings, 63cm wingspan, 232 resin parts and 12 clear resin parts, 60 struts with reinforcing wire inside, 2 big sheets of masks (for Roundles) and decals printed by Cartograf, 4 marking options and instructions on a USB stick. Eduard Releases First Test Shots of Upcoming New Tool P-51 Kit

Eduard has released the first test shots of their upcoming new tool P-51D Mustang model kit in 1/48 scale.

The company states that they successfully tested the first two of six tools needed for production. The early test provided a “nice result with some flashes, but without shrinkages.” It is expected that the next test will move both tools “very close to production status.”

As previously reported, the kit makes use of “every technological innovation” at Eduard’s disposal and will initially be released as a ProfiPACK edition, followed by limited edition releases that will be theme related.
