“Museum Owned, Damaged, Cheap” Stearman PT-17 For Sale

Please Note: This is an archived post. The information presented here may not be current and the associated listing may no longer be active.

A “museum owned, damaged, cheap” Stearman PT-17 is currently available for sale.

The machine is reportedly owned by the Palm Springs Air Museum and was used for airshows, displays and rides until it “lost power just after takeoff” while conducting a passenger flight.

The experienced pilot turned the airplane back to the airport and made a hard, mostly controlled landing, which seriously damaged the fron t of the airplane. The failure was determined to be a fuel line which had collapsed, blocking flow to the engine.

The Stearman is located in Arizona and is currently available for US $8,995, although bids are also being accepted. Click here to check out the complete listing on eBay, which provides additional history and details damage sustained.

Lukgraph Announces Upcoming 1/32 DH.89 Dragon Rapide Model Kit

Lukgraph Resin Kit has announced the upcoming release of a De Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide in 1/32 scale.

The model will reportedly measure 456 x 332 mm and will be available in two boxings, including “2 British painting (camouflage and silver)” and “US Army and Israeli Air Force.” The kit will also boast resin castings, 3D printed Gipsy Six x 2 engine with exhaust pipes, 3D printed passenger seats (8 + 1 reserve), 3D printed pilot’s cabin interior and photo-etched sheets.

The most important elements (wings, fuselage, gondolas) are ready. A gondola consisting of two halves with a motor will be a big advantage of the model (open – you will have to make it yourself – but this is not a problem for an experienced modeller).

The kit is slated to appear “at the turn of April and May this year.” The company states that the price has not yet been determined, but will be “as friendly as possible.” Click below to check out additional images.

Fundraiser Aims to Fly Four Rotary-Powered Triplanes Together at 2020 Event

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched that aims to put four rotary-powered Fokker triplanes in the air over Dayton, Ohio at the upcoming Dawn Patrol Rendezvous 2020 event scheduled for October 2-3.

Golden Age Air Museum, Pioneer Flight Museum, Knights of the Sky, and Fred Murrin have committed to bringing their historical aircraft and their passion for WWI aviation to DPR2020. We need help though! We have calculated our travel expenses at $10,000 to drive all four aircraft across the country to attend. We need all donations by the end of July in order for them to be released in time to use for our travel.

Those who would like to contribute toward the effort can do so here.
