A “restored, museum condition” 1966 UH-1H Huey in Medevac configuration has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

The helicopter is an in and out restoration project, in Medevac configuration, the interior was stripped, repainted and re assembled with some newer components and seats, (I can offer litter setup with purchase) the exterior has been completely repainted as well and new letters painted. Potential buyers, please know that this aircraft does not come with data plate or maintenance records, it can’t be made to fly so please don’t ask what it takes to be flyable, is for static purposes only… The aircraft is ready to put in a museum or use at a parade… The aircraft has many of its components, there are some not visible components not installed but, all visible are there for complete static display. The transmission is installed and the engine will be included with the purchase. The helicopter comes with both sets of main and tail rotor blades, i will leave them removed for transportation purposes though…

Silver Wings Releases New Tool 1/32 Tiger Moth Model Kit

Silver Wings has released their new tool, resin De Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth model kit in 1/32 scale.

The model appears to include photo etched details and marking options for six machines, including MO-159, LeLv26, Finnish Air Force, 1943; PG-712/2, Royal Netherlands Air Force, 1946; N6919/36, probably of No 1 EFTS, RAF, 1940; G-ACDA, De Havilland School of Flying, Hatfield, 1933; DE745, assigned to the 353rd Fighter Group, USAAF Station 366 (RAF Metfield), September 1943 and R4922, used by 7 Elementary Flying Training School, Desford and Braunstone, 1939-1945.

This California based Stearman is a reliable, fun, and a fully aerobatic classic aircraft. The aircraft was meticulously rebuilt and offers increased performance with custom built enhancements to the R-985 Wasp engine. The detail of the rebuild is easily visible and the aircraft is mechanically sound and professionally maintained. Aircraft will be delivered with a fresh annual.

The airframe and engine each reportedly have about “500 hrs.” The list of enhancements include:

Navcom Radio and Intercom system, 12 volt Jasco Alternator and new sealed battery, Fuselage totally stripped and cleaned then rebuilt with all new AN hardware, New wood in wings and center section, Red line disk brakes, and 24ct gold graphics, N struts and Cabane struts are polished as are all the flying wires, All Dzus fastener were chromed, Covered with poly fiber (stitch) and painted, Engine rebuilt holding all tolerances to blue print minimums, Cylinders were low time standard steel bored .010 over, Fitted with new pistons, rings, valves and guides, Prop overhauled

The P-38’s Full Story To Be Told in Upcoming Book

Steve Blake’s upcoming book Lightning Strikes: The Lockheed P-38 is touted as offering the “full story” of the Lockheed P-38, “one of the most successful and versatile aircraft of the Second World War.”

The book describes the Lightning’s design and its technical details as it gradually evolved and improved, from the original XP-38 to its final variant, the P-38L-5. The main focus is on its service in the combat theaters, from the frigid, windswept Aleutian Islands in the North Pacific to the steaming jungles of the South Pacific and Southeast Asia, the burning sands of North Africa and the more temperate climes of Europe. All the units that flew the Lightning are included, as are the experiences of many of their pilots and groundcrewmen as they fought the Japanese Empire and the European Axis. Also related are the P-38’s service with foreign (non-U.S.) air forces, its postwar commercial utilization as civilian aircraft and the surviving examples in museums around the world.

The 320-page book, described as “extremely well illustrated” with “over 400 high-resolution photographs, art work and graphics” as well as detailed appendices, is currently slated for release in November and is available for pre-order here ($45).

“Very Clean, Externally Complete, Static” BAE Hawk Offered For Sale

BAe ASTRA Hawk T1 XX341 is currently available for sale. The machine was built in 1981 and has reportedly amassed 2871 airframe hrs with 4631 landings. The listing states (in part):

XX341 is a one of a kind aircraft known as the Advanced Stability Training and Research Aircraft, ASTRA Hawk for short. XX341 was one of 3 BAe Hawk T1 aircraft ordered for the Empire Test Pilot School in 1981. This example was the 1st Hawk delivered to the school. 3 years later the aircraft was chosen to be radically modified to become the ASTRA Hawk.

The aircraft is described as “an externally complete static display/museum exhibit” in “very clean and tidy external condition.” It was “recently retired and never kept outside.” It is located in England with pricing available upon request. Click here to check out the complete listing.

Kineticmodel Announces Release Date for New F/TF-104G Starfighter Kit

Kineticmodel has announced the upcoming release of their new F/TF-104G Starfighter model kit in 1/48 scale.

The new product (48089) is reportedly based on Kinetic’s new tool F-104G (48083) released last year, and appears to include photo-etched parts and Cartograf decals. It is also labeled as “2 in 1,” which reportedly means that the kit allows either the single or two seat F-104G to be built.

The new F/TF-104G is currently slated to become available by the end of June 2020.

Special Hobby Shares First Test Shots of Upcoming 1/32 Westland Whirlwind Kit

Special Hobby has shared the first test photos of their upcoming Westland Whirlwind Mk.1 model kit in 1/32 scale.

The newly released images show the first test shot of wing and engine nacelle molds, as well as the first raw wing sprue fit test. According to the company, corrections are necessary, but it looks good.

As previously reported, the molds are reportedly being created using an electroplating process, sometimes also known as galvanic deposition. The kit’s (SH32047) development has been talked about for some time in the modeling community and its release is anxiously awaited.

1959 Grumman HU-16B Albatross S/N 146427 (N10GN) has hit the market.

The airframe reportedly has 5,710 TTSN (airframe life limit at 8,371 hrs: 2,661 hrs remaining), while the two Wright R-1820-76B engines have 506 and 536 SMOH.

The machine includes an avionics package with Garmin GNS 530 GPS/comm, Collins VHF-20 comm, Collins 331A-3G HSI compass system: PN-101 indicator – pilot’s panel, King KPX-750 transponder, NAT AA12-001 audio panel, Trans-Cal SSD120 encoder, multi station intercom and Bose headset adapters in cockpit. Additional equipment includes Buehn engine L&R pre-oil systems and scavenge systems.

The aircraft reportedly has an FAA Restricted Category (Carriage of Cargo) airworthiness certificate under FAA Type Certificate A33SO, Rev 10 and an FAA approved inspection program. AZmodel To Release 4 “Complete New Tool” DH 103 Hornet Model Kits

AZmodel has announced the upcoming release of “complete new tool” model kits of the DH.103 Hornet.

The 1/72 kits will represent the F.Mk.I (AZ7651), PR.Mk.2 (AZ7652), F.Mk.3 (AZ7653) and FR.Mk.4 (AZ7654). At the moment additional details are scarce, although the kits are reportedly slated for release in June/July. Box art images are also available, additional examples of which can be seen below.
