P-51 Reproduction For Sale: “Complete Flying Aircraft”

An experimental P-51 reproduction that “helped inspire one of the very popular Mustang kits available today” has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):

This is a complete flying aircraft that has the following: All Aluminum 4.0L V8 Engine… 4-Blade Ground Adjustable Prop driven by a 1.6 to 1 Prop Speed Reduction Unit, Dual control, fly from either front or rear seat or both, Long 27 foot wing (Many Mustang replicas have short/clipped wings. This aircraft has great appearance and a greater wing area. Light overall weight of 1135 lbs dry/unloaded. Max takeoff weight is 1800 lbs. No leaks, does not leak anything/anywhere.

TF-51 “Tempus Fugit” Offered For Sale

1944 TF-51 S/N 44-63865 (N151TF) has hit the market.

The airframe reportedly has 1331.2 TTSN (341.1 Hrs. Since restoration and conversion to full dual control specifications by Square One Aviation, Chino, CA) while the Packard V-1650-9 Merlin engine has 341 SMOH by Vintage V-12s (231 STOH by Glenn Wegman/Roush Aviation). The propeller is a Hamilton Standard 24D50 w/ Paddle Blades (160 SMOH / A.D. complied with 6/2020 next due 6/2026).

All airframe components were completely remanufactured by Square One Aviation (SQ1). The engine mount, wings, tail cone, vertical fin, stabilizer and all control surfaces were completely opened or disassembled for inspection
All parts were inspected, overhauled or replaced, prepped, primed and finish painted before final assembly. The rear seat controls are complete, including primer, starter, mixture, prop, throttle, rudder, brakes, landing gear handle plus a full instrument panel including a Garmin GNC 250XL GPS-COM… Annual Completed 9/2021.

The machine includes an avionics package as well as a lengthy list of SQ1 work. It is located in South Carolina and is available for $4,200,000. Click here to check out the listing.

Built by Dan Hawken in the late 90’s Aircraft first flight was November 26th 1999. Last recorded flight was September 24th 2011, aircraft has total flight time of 49hours. The aircraft has two seats and is dual control, the engine is an aluminum 4.0 land rover V8 with a 1.6 to 1 belt re-drive. Aircraft has a 27foot wingspan, removable engine cowlings, electric retractable landing gear with oleo struts, electric flaps, 2 aluminum wing tanks and one aluminum fuselage tank. Prop is warp drive four blade ground adjustable only. Aircraft empty weight is 1135lb. I have the logs. Nose / canopy cover included… wings are properly removed and crated for transport, shipping/loading damage to lower rudder surface

The intended powerplant is either a 200hp ranger in-line 6 cylinder engine or an LS series auto engine conversion with PSRU. Major components completed. With dedication, you could complete this project as the ‘owner builder’ and fly this aircraft to Oshkosh next year. “Fully serviceable and ready to fly” North American TF-51D S/N 124-44703 (G-TFSI) has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):

Presented in excellent condition (both cockpits). This aircraft is an exceptionally fine example of a complete TF conversion and is configured for training. The rear cockpit includes dual flight controls and all flight and engine instruments, plus fuel selection indications, throttle, prop, mixture, all 3 trimmers, canopy jettison, gear lever and indications.

The aircraft reportedly has 1,774 TT, while the Packard V-1650-7 engine has 420 hrs TSO. Additional features include an avionics package, electric pre-oiler, electric primer and emergency fuel system. It is located in Northampton, UK and is currently being offered for GBP £2,999,500. P-51 Under Restoration and For Sale With Option to Complete as P-51D or TF-51

Tom Reilly and his skilled crew (best known for the award-winning XP-82 Twin Mustang restoration) are currently in the process of restoring a P-51 (S/N 44-12853), and it’s for sale. The listing states (in part):

This is a unique opportunity to have a P-51 Mustang built to your specifications. Customer to choose: restored as a P-51D or a TF-51: Interior paint colors, instrument panel layout, rear seat configuration, replica guns/no guns, exterior paint / polish. The project is currently under restoration and the will be updated as subassemblies are completed and parts added.

The fuselage has reportedly been rebuilt with new skins and longerons and is ready for systems installation (the systems are described as “either N.O.S., new manufactured, or overhauled to zero time specifications”). The engine mount has also been rebuilt with new longerons. A wing kit has been purchased from Odegaard Wings and will be restored with new wing spars, ribs, and skins. The aircraft will be powered by a Packard V-1650-9 to be overhauled by either Vintage V-12’s or Roush Aviation.

The project is located in Georgia and is currently being offered with two options: completed as a P-51D for $2.45m or a full dual control TF-51 for $3.5m. Click here to check out the complete listing.
