Two Award Winning P-51D Mustangs Offered For Sale As Pair

A pair of award winning North American P-51D Mustangs honoring the Pattillo brothers have hit the market. The offering includes 1944 P-51D S/N 44-73279 (N451D) “Sweet & Lovely” and 1945 P-51D S/N 45-11495 (N5551D) “Little Rebel.”

Sweet & Lovely’s airframe reportedly has 133 hours since restoration and is powered by a “Packard -1650-7 w -9 Heads and Banks.” Little Rebel’s airframe reportedly has 88 hours since restoration and is equipped with a “Packard -1650-7 w 500 Series Heads and Banks; Roush Pistons; Eye Engineering – Fingers.”

Features reportedly include new fuselages with new longhorns and skins, wings with new spars and skins, “everything new or overhauled.”

A 2/3 scale Sal/Falco P-51 is available for sale. The listing states:

2/3 scale nearing completion. LS-1 engine, 4-blade prop with PSRU and ignition system. Like new condition engine. Includes a digital com radio. Nacogdoches, TX I do have the prop spinner. Prop is ground adjustable. HiVo chain prop speed reduction unit. This is not a kit. This plans built plane has never been flown, never had a different engine but will also take a ranger engine. Have cowlings for Ranger engine-cowlings for the LS-1 have not been fabricated. Never been damaged. Wings removed easily for transport.

Reduced Scale P-51 Offered For Sale

A reduced scale P-51 has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

The plane is made from construction of metal and plywood and canvas. Engines equipped with a Rotax 582 (65PS) 2 tact, control system, desktop instruments, armchair, brakes. Painted in accordance with the original designations of U.S.-Army of the period. The plane has no documentation release for flights. Caution !!! The auction applies to the replica without a Rotax 582 engine. The engine for an additional fee of GBP 3000.

The machine was reportedly built from a kit and acquired in the Czech Republic. It is said to be scaled 1:0.75 to the original. It is currently located in Wroclaw, Poland and is available for £7,500, although bids are also being accepted. Click here to check out the complete listing on eBay.

P-51D Mustang “The Shark” Offered For Sale

P-51D Mustang “The Shark” (S/N 44-73877 / G-SHWN) has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

The Shark was built by North American Aviation in July 1945 and served with the USAAF at several training units before being transferred to the Canadian Airforce where it served from 1951 – 1959. It was bought by a civil owner in 1980 and restored as ‘Old Crow’

The machine currently wears the colors of 112 Squadron RAF. It is reportedly powered by a Packard Merlin V12 – V-1650-7 which has flown 105 hours since overhaul by Eye Tech Engineering Ltd. The airframe has reportedly flown a total of 1562 hours since overhaul in the US.

The aircraft reportedly consists of Sal/Falco type plans and construction, an LS-1 engine (said to be in “good condition”) and a 4-blade propeller with PSRU and ignition system custom built for the engine type. A digital com radio is also included.

P-51 “Frances Dell” Offered For Sale

P-51 S/N 44-13903 “Frances Dell” is on the market.

Restoration of the machine (formerly “Glamorous Gal” as seen above) was reportedly completed by Midwest Aero Restorations in the Fall of 2014, during which “everything overhauled/repaired/fixed/improved with all new wires, cables, phenolics. etc.” The airframe is said to have a total time of 1,700 hrs while the Packard V-1650-7 engine has 135 hrs SMOH. The propeller is touted as having been statically and dynamically balanced with new Avia paddle blades, all of which have 135 hrs SMOH.

The machine is described as “really clean,” having been “flown respectfully and kept in a heated hangar.” It is said to include all documentation and 337 forms and has an annual that is good through October 2018.
