First Look: Box Contents For Sword Models’ New Tool AF-2W / AF-2S Guardian Kits

Sword Models has provided the first glimpse of the box contents for their soon to be released AF-2W Guardian “Hunter” and AF-2S Guardian “Killer” kits in 1/72 scale.

As previously reported, the Grumman AF-2W Guardian “Hunter” and AF-2S Guardian “Killer” were a paired U.S. Navy anti-submarine warfare system in which the AF-2W carried the search radar and detection gear in a large ventral radome, while the AF-2S carried the weapons load such as torpedoes, depth charges, bombs, and rockets. Flown together as hunter-killer teams beginning in 1950, they were the Navy’s first purpose-built carrier-based ASW aircraft, but their size and poor low-speed handling made them accident-prone, and they were soon replaced by the more efficient S2F Tracker.

The kits (SW72162 and SW72163) include plastic parts, painting masks and decals with two marking options per variant. Click below to check out box contents and livery profiles.

Sword Models to Release New Tool AF-2 Guardian “Hunter” and “Killer” Kits

Sword Models in preparing to release a new tool models of the AF-2W Guardian “Hunter” and AF-2S Guardian “Killer” in 1/72 scale.

The Grumman AF-2W Guardian “Hunter” and AF-2S Guardian “Killer” were a paired U.S. Navy anti-submarine warfare system in which the AF-2W carried the search radar and detection gear in a large ventral radome, while the AF-2S carried the weapons load such as torpedoes, depth charges, bombs, and rockets. Now Available: Sword Models’ New Tool Short SB.6 Seamew

Sword Models has released their new tool Short SB.6 Seamew model kit in 1/72 scale.

As previously reported, the Seamew was a British lightweight carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft developed by Shorts in the early 1950s to replace the FAA’s Avenger. It first flew on 23 August 1953 but suffered handling problems and shifting defense priorities, which led to limited production and ultimately cancellation after only a small number of airframes were built.

The release (SW72157) is described as “quite large” and includes liveries for XE169 of HMS Warrior and XA123 of HMS Bulwark.

First Look: Sword Models’ New Tool Short SB.6 Seamew

Sword Models has announced that their new tool Short SB.6 Seamew model kit is almost ready.

The Short SB.6 Seamew was a British lightweight carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft developed by Shorts in the early 1950s to replace the FAA’s Avenger. It first flew on 23 August 1953 but suffered handling problems and shifting defense priorities, which led to limited production and ultimately cancellation after only a small number of airframes were built.

The upcoming 1/72 release (SW72157) is described as “quite large” and appears to include liveries for XE169 of HMS Warrior and XA123 of HMS Bulwark. The company states that they are completing the paperwork and starting to pack with release slated for sometime this month.

First Look: Sprues For Sword’s Upcoming Grumman Avenger Kits

Sword Models has released sprue images for their upcoming Grumman Avenger kits in 1/72 scale.

The kits will reportedly represent Avenger AS.4 (SW72130), TBM-3S2 Avenger (SW72131) and TBM-3R (SW72132). As previously reported, details are limited, although the offerings are slated for release sometime at the end of June.

Sword Announces Upcoming Release of 3 New Avenger Kits

Sword models has announced the upcoming release of three new Grumman Avenger kits in 1/72 scale.

The kits will reportedly represent Avenger AS.4 (SW72130), TBM-3S2 Avenger (SW72131) and TBM-3R (SW72132).

Additional details are limited at the moment, although the offerings are slated for release sometime at the end of June. Box art images have also been released, additional examples of which can be seen below.

Sword Announces Upcoming New Tool 1/72 TBM-3W “Guppy” Model Kits

Sword Models is reportedly working on a new tool example of the TBM-3W “Guppy” in 1/72 scale.

The machine, a conversion of the TBM-3 Avenger, was the first ship based airborne early warning control and relay platform with an APS-20 radar housed in a ventral radome. It appears that the kit will be available in two versions (SW72114 – TBM-3W “Guppy” and SW72115 – TBM-3W “Guppy” l´Aeronavale, Kon.Marine) and will include plastic sprues, waterslide decals and clear parts.

Pricing and a final release date have not yet been announced.
