Restored, Award Winning DH89A Dragon Rapide Offered For Sale

1944 deHavilland DH89A Dragon Rapide S/N 6801 (ex RAF NR713 / Reg: VH-UXZ) has hit the market.

The airframe reportedly has 2128 TTSN (28.5 since restoration) while the two Gipsy Queen III engines have 28.52 hrs SMOH by Maurice Rolfe. Additional features include an avionics package, electric fuel pumps and X-Feed system, wingtip strobe lights, elect tachometer system and Odyssey 12 V battery. Annual inspection due 2/2021.

Thirty-one years after acquiring what he describes as a “trailer load of junk”, Maurice Rolfe’s DH.89A Dragon Rapide VH-UXZ made its first post-restoration flight – and that same weekend picked up a coveted award. With John Williams at the controls, the Rapide lifted off from Moorabbin Airport on 28 March [2014] for an hour long shakedown flight. That same afternoon the aircraft was flown to the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia’s (AAAA) National Fly-in. It was here that Maurice and Paige Rolfe were rewarded with the Reserve Grand Champion award for the magnificent restoration of this classic British biplane.

“Untouched, Complete, Very Rare” Fw 190 Sliding Canopy Offered For Sale

Vienna-based historic aircraft builders Craftlab have listed for sale a Focke Wulf 190 sliding canopy.

The canopy is described as “untouched, complete” and “a very rare museum piece.” Serious inquiries are being accepted and interested parties can contact the seller at craftlab@craftlab.at.

Eduard Releases Morane Saulnier Type N Model Kit

Eduard has re-released its 1/48 Morane Saulnier Type N ProfiPACK edition model kit with new decals.

The offering (8095) reportedly includes Eduard plastic parts and decals, pre-painted photo-etched parts and a painting mask. Six marking options are also included representing MS398, flown by Adj. Jean Marie Dominique Navarre of Escadrille MS 12; MS394, probably from Escadrille MS.12; A.173, flown by 2/Lt. Beauchamp N. Wainwright of 60 Squadron RFC; A.178, flown by Lt. Tone H. P. Bayetto of 24 Squadron RFC; A.122, flown by Lt. Simpson of 60 Squadron RFC and a Type N flown by Sergt. Jean Chaput, Escadrille N 31.

Restored Beechcraft Super G18 Offered For Sale

1962 Beechcraft Super G18 S/N BA616 (N50WA) has hit the market.

The airframe reportedly has 4750 TTSN (300 hrs since restoration), while the two Pratt & Whitney R-985 SB Wasp Jr. engines each have 300 hrs SMOH. Additional features include an avionics package, restored interior with 7 pax configuration (all executive chairs) as well as a 3 pax bench to provide an 8 pax configuration.

First Look: Test Build of MENG’s Upcoming 1/32 Fokker F.1/Dr.1 Model Kit

MENG has released a number of photos showing a test build of its upcoming Fokker F.1/Dr.1 model kit in 1/32 scale.

As previously reported, The offering (QS-002) is described as “a carefully studied, large scale” model kit “with precise details,” boasting “accurate exteriors, wing structure and realistic fabric covering.” Additional features reportedly include “completely replicated” cockpit interior and engine construction, PE cooling jackets and sights for the machine guns.

Three build options are included, allowing a representation of the Fokker F.1, Dr.1 (Early Production) or Dr.1 (Late Production). The rudder and ailerons can also be installed at selected angles. As for livery options, it has only been reported that von Richthofen’s machine is included.

According to Scalemates, the model is a rebox of Wingnut Wings’ new tool F.1/Dr.1 offering which, as of this writing, is listed as “in development.” The MENG kit will reportedly be available “soon.”

Douglas DC-3A Offered For Sale With “Numerous Airframe Spares,” Extra Engine

1940 Douglas DC-3A S/N 2239 (N28AA) has hit the market.

It was the fifth DC-3A delivered to Braniff Airways in 1940 as N25666. In April 1953 the aircraft was sold to Trans Texas Airways who operated it for the next 15 years. It then flew with various airlines including Eastern Express Airlines, a subsidiary of Eastern Airlines. It was eventually acquired by the late Ron Alexander, who performed an overhaul of the machine, installing a new passenger interior and applying the polished / painted finish. It was sold to the current owner in 2017.

The airframe reportedly has 83,025 TTSN while the two Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engines have 930 and 1479 SMOH. It includes an avionics package, “numerous airframe spares,” and a spare R-1830 engine w/ 650 hrs SMOH.​

Italeri has released a lockheed T-33A Shooting Star model kit in 1/72 scale.

The kit (1444) is described as a version of the Platz T-33 released in 2012 with new decals. A total of seven liveries are offered representing machines in American (2), Italian, German, French, Spanish, and Greek-Hellenic service.

Brengun Announces Upcoming SBD Dauntless Model Kit

Hauler – Brengun has announced the upcoming release of a new Douglas SBD Dauntless model kit in 1/144 scale.

The announcement was accompanied by the above image and “Vejtasa,” suggesting that the offering will include the livery of the machine flown by WW2 ace Swede Vejtasa, which operated from USS Yorktown during the Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942.

Pricing, kit contents and a potential release date have not yet been announced.

For Sale: Aero L-39C Project “Undamaged, Full Logs Since Day One”

A 1984 L-39C project with “full logs since day one” and “only 1400TT since new” has hit the market as part of a package along with a Rockwell Sabreliner and two engines. The listing states (in part):

Original engine was hot started and donated to a museum, not included. We are including a 1981 Rockwell Sabreliner with 2 low time Honeywell Garrett TFE731-3R-1D engines. Convert this L-39 to the reliable American engine and sell off the 2nd one. The L-39C airframe is undamaged and on shipping fixtures ready to ship. The Sabreliner is still together and will need to be disassembled and hauled away.
