TBM-3E Avenger For Sale: “Never a Crop Duster or Fire Bomber”

1945 Grumman TBM-3E Avenger (S/N 88582 / N9584Z) “Ida Red” has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

Manufactured in March 1945; Accepted by U.S. Navy; Stationed at NAS Seattle for use as a Radar Operator Trainer; VT-4; VT-11; CASU (Carrier Auxiliary Service Unit); Decommissioned from the US Navy in 1956. Never a Crop Duster or Fire Bomber

The airframe reportedly has 3615 hrs TTSN while the Curtiss Wright R-2600-20 engine has 680 hrs SMOH by Rudy Blakey. The machine spins a Hamilton Standard 22E50 (6501 blades) with 440 hrs SPOH by H&S Propeller. The aircraft boasts a replica 5 inch HVAR / 2500 lb GPU bombs, empty APS-4 radar Pod (very rare) mounted on right wing, removable COD (Carrier Onboard Delivery Container) installed in bomb bay, tailhook and markings representing the North Atlantic Hunter-Killer Carrier Task Forces.

Additional features include an avionics package, electric standby hydraulic pump, electric oil shut-off valve interconnected to starter, two piece tailwheel tow bar installed in bomb bay and Bruce’s custom cabin cover (including turret). A lengthy list of spares and tools / manuals are also included. The aircraft has been maintained by Airpower Unlimited of Jerome, ID since 2016 and the listing details restoration and significant restoration work since that time.

Unfortunately, it’s time to move on as I have too many airplanes and not enough time to enjoy her. All options! Nothing needed! ADS B In and Out! Vintage plane with removable glass cockpit integrated with the Garmin 345 Transponder. Imagine having a moving map and traffic in the cockpit! Talk about Safety! Redline brakes, Roller Bearings, Jasco Alternator, Solid Tail Wheel Tire. Clean condition. 100 hr. prop inspection was done recently. Airfix Announces Development of New Tool Hawker Tempest Mk. V

Airfix has announced the development of a new tool Hawker Tempest Mk. V model kit in 1/72 scale.

The offering (A02109) is being created with the aid of accurate scan data obtained from a surviving Tempest in a UK Museum as well as an abundance of additional research material. It will reportedly “incorporate lots of fine detail, even at this smaller scale and in areas of the design such as the undercarriage bays.”

The kit will reportedly consist of sprues and decals with 68 parts and livery options for two machines, including JN751 and JN766. It is currently slated for release in the winter of 2022. Click below to check out a selection of the newly released renderings.

Roden Releases New He111 H-16/Н-20 Model Kit

Roden has released a new Heinkel He111 H-16/Н-20 model kit in 1/144 scale.

According to Scalemates, the offering (344) is a rebox with new/updated parts. It includes two marking options:

He111H-20, “black M” +KM, 4/KG53, Eastern Front, Summer 1944. This aircraft took part in a raid against US bombers B-17, dispersed at the Poltava airfield after the mission during Operation Frantic.

He111H-16, “red H” 1G+HK, 2/KG27, Eastern Front, Southern Ukraine, winter 1942/43

For Sale: “Magnificent P-40N Restoration with Dual Controls”

Curtiss P-40N Kittyhawk C-FVWC (S/N 42-104827) has hit the market.

The airframe reportedly has 172.3 hrs since restoration by Pioneer Aero Restorations (2009), while the Allison V-1710-81A engine has 12.2 hrs SMOH by Vintage V-12s (2019). The Curtiss Electric prop has 12.2 hrs. SMOH by Westpac Propellers (2019).

The aircraft includes an avionics package, a rear seat with dual controls, an interior restored to stock military configuration and Desert Air Force markings representing the P-40 flown by Canadian Ace “Stocky” Edwards.
