Eduard’s New Royal Class P-51D Masterfully Assembled in Entertaining Stop-Motion Video

As the subject for his latest stop-motion model assembly video, Tom Grigat of TOMs Modelling in Motion takes on Eduard’s “Royal Class” 1/48 P-51D kit. Tom states:

“This video is about the kit opponent of my recent animation of the Hobby Boss version were I had to add a lot of after market parts to get a good result. This Royal class kit from Eduard is so perfect detailed that assembling out of box has been better than the other kit with all the additional parts. I hope you’ll like it… I achieved the bare metal look with – for me – a new type of acrylic colors: KColors from custom paint industries. Other colors: Alclad Mil-Specs, Alclad II metallics, Alclad Aqua Gloss. Antenna cable simulated with rubber thread from Uschi van der Rosten.”

Development Update: Airfix’s New Tool Canadair Sabre Mk.4 Model Kit

Airfix has provided an early development update for their upcoming new tool Canadair Sabre Mk.4 model kit in 1/48 scale.

The images accompanying the report represent many months of work to create the most accurate model possible. This included scanning a suitable aircraft at the Norwegian Armed Forces Aircraft Collection in Oslo, taking measurements and detailed photographs and delving into the history of this particular machine. The compiled information was then used to create a 3D CAD version of the aircraft that serves as the base model shell.

While there is still much work left to do, the new Sabre is slated for release in the winter of 2020. The company states that in this new larger scale, the model will look “absolutely magnificent in our display cabinets, especially when wearing the camouflage markings of the Royal Air Force.”

First Look: Sprues, Test Build for Airfix’s New Tool Spitfire Mk Vc

Airfix has shared photos of the first test sprues for their upcoming new tool Spitfire Mk Vc model kit in 1/72 scale.

As previously reported, the company states that this first release (A02108) will represent “aircraft equipped with the distinctive chin mounted Vokes air filter, which whilst reducing the top speed of the aircraft, allowed it to be operated more effectively in warmer and sand filled Mediterranean and desert climates.” Two livery profiles have also been posted for ER180 of 307 FS 31 FG and JL115 of 2 Squadron.

The new images show the first plastic frames for the new kit as well as the first test build from the first test components. The company states that “Every aspect of the kit’s design will need to be assessed, from surface detail to checking for sink marks and from the general fit and finish of the model to checking overall design tolerances.” Therefore, they note that parts are “still subject to change before the tooling can be released for production.”

The new kit is currently slated for release in the autumn of 2020. Click below to check out additional images.

Airfix Releases New Tool 1/48 DH Tiger Moth Model Kit

Airfix has released its new tool DH Tiger Moth model kit in 1/48 scale.

As previously reported, The kit (A04104) was developed to be “as accurate as possible,” utilizing original research data and engineering drawings as well as information gathered from an airworthy Tiger Moth at Headcorn Aerodrome. It also incorporates a “clever design feature” for builders looking to achieve maximum detail:

The wing internals have tiny and rather discrete indentations which serve as a guide to the placement of rigging holes, should you decide to go for total authenticity with your build, holes which are not visible if you elect not to rig the model.

The new model reportedly includes livery options representing K-2585/G-ANKT (formerly T6818), owned and operated by The Shuttleworth Collection and K-4259/G-ANMO, based at Headcorn Aerodrome.
