Roden Releases New Tool Short S.25 Sunderland Mark III/V Kit

Roden has released a new tool Short S.25 Sunderland Mark III/V in 1/144 scale.

The Short S.25 Sunderland Mark III/V was a British maritime patrol flying boat of World War II. During the war, these aircraft operated over the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans, from the Arctic to the tropics. German pilots nicknamed it the “Flying Porcupine” due to its powerful defensive armament.

The new release (353) includes marking options for three aircraft. Check out the product page below, along with livery profiles and box contents.

Special Hobby Releases New Short Sunderland Mk III Model Kit

Special Hobby has released their new Short Sunderland Mk III model kit in 1/72 scale.

The offering (SH72304) is based on the new tool Sunderland Mk V model kit (SH72162) released in 2019. The new Mk III kit represents the anti-submarine version of the flying boat and reportedly offers “extremely detailed interior,” scale panel lines and marking options for four machines, including EK591/2-U of 422 Squadron, EJ168/J of 343 Squadron, EJ134/N of 461 Squadron and DV969 of 10 Squadron.

Special Hobby to Release New Short Sunderland Mk III Model Kit

Special Hobby has announced the upcoming release of a new Short Sunderland Mk III model kit in 1/72 scale.

Details about the offering (SH72304), including contents and pricing, appear to be absent at the moment. However, the box art seen here suggests that a EK591, a Blackburn-built machine that operated with 422 Squadron RCAF, will be a marking option.

The kit is currently slated for release in June.

Special Hobby Announces Liveries for Upcoming New Tool Sunderland V Kit

Special Hobby has revealed the four marking options to be included in their highly anticipated new tool Short Sunderland Mk V model kit.

The 1/72 offering (SH72162) will reportedly contain liveries for ML796, NJ177 and PP117, as well as SZ566, which was flown by Vaclav Bergman in Singapore during the Korea War and is featured on the box art shown above. The marking options appear to represent post-war machines, which is reflected in the kit’s “Fighting Commies” release title.

As previously reported, the company describes the product as “a brand new model, yes just ours – no cooperation with anyone else.” It is currently slated for release in April.

Special Hobby to Release New Tool Short Sunderland Model Kit

Special Hobby has announced the upcoming release of their long awaited new tool Short Sunderland Mk V model kit in 1/72 scale.

Details about the upcoming kit (SH72162) are lacking, although the company describes it as “a brand new model, yes just ours – no cooperation with anyone else.” The box art depicts SZ566/Z, which was flown by Vaclav Bergman in Singapore during the Korea War. Liveries to be represented in the kit have not been reported.

The Sunderland is currently slated for release in April.

Kermit Weeks Shares Part 2 of His VIP Short Sunderland Tour [Video]

Kermit Weeks has shared part 2 of a “full VIP” tour of his Short Sunderland flying boat.

As reported with part 1 of the series, this particular machine was acquired by Weeks in 1993 from Edward Hulton. After five months of work in England he flew the machine across the Atlantic, directly to the Oshkosh Fly-In in Wisconsin with stops in Ireland, Iceland, and Canada. It remained at Oshkosh until 1994, when Fantasy of Flight’s seaplane ramp was completed. Two years later, the machine flew to Sarasota and participated in the Olympic torch relay to Atlanta.

The newly released second installment focuses on the flight deck and cockpit while also offering some “history, fun stories and plenty of information.” Click below to check it out.

Kermit Weeks Provides “Full VIP” Tour of Short Sunderland [Video]

For the latest installment of his Kermie Cam series, Fantasy of Flight’s Kermit Weeks has filmed a “full VIP walk around” of his Short Sunderland flying boat.

This particular example was acquired by Weeks in 1993 from Edward Hulton. After five months of work in England he flew the machine across the Atlantic, directly to the Oshkosh Fly-In in Wisconsin with stops in Ireland, Iceland, and Canada. It remained at Oshkosh until 1994, when Fantasy of Flight’s seaplane ramp was completed. Two years later, the machine flew to Sarasota and participated in the Olympic torch relay to Atlanta.

The newly released video serves as part 1 of a two part series and includes “a bit of history, some cool stories and plenty of useful or useless information, depending on your point of view.”
