A 1946 Piper L-4 S/N 17624 (N70615) has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

1946 Piper L4 Grasshopper Restored To Award Winning Condition. 190 Hours Since Restoration. Maybe The Nicest L-4 In The Country. 190 hrs since restoration, wings rebuilt using new spars and ribs, new lift struts, all new MLG bungee cords, covered in Ceconite, Sky Tec starter and push button starter switch, new muffler installed, Grove disc brake conversion, Continental C-85-12F 46 Hrs SMOH.

National Museum of WW2 Aviation Offering P-47 Artifact Lamp From Famous 348th FG

The National Museum of World War II Aviation is currently offering “a very historical artifact” in the form of a lamp incorporating a “a turbo charger fan from an actual P-47 Razorback.” The listing states (in part):

The base of this lamp is a turbo charger fan from an actual P-47 Razorback, from the 348th Fighter Group that flew in the WWII. Led by “Medal Of Honor” recipient Col. Neel Kearby. This Group was the most successful P-47 group in the Pacific. The group scored 396 kills; over half of all the kills credited to Fifth Air Force P-47s. The group had 20 aces, including Kearby who was credited with 22 kills. With the conclusion of the war the aircraft had little value; given that factory fresh aircraft were available stateside. These combat veteran aircraft had their engines removed and were unceremoniously bulldozed into a pit. Some 55 years later, in the year 2000, Col. Neel Kearby’s plane and two others were excavated from Papua New Guinea. This turbocharger fan was excavated with those planes.

Grumman SA-16B Airframe Project Offered For Sale

A Grumman SA-16B Triphibian (Air Force SAR #51-0043) project airframe has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

TT:6915.7. Built in 1951, It was flown in the U.S. Air-Force until 1972 when it was retired in Tucson, AZ. It has been in storage in Tucson since retirement. It is a low time Air Force Long wing “B”, it would be nice to find someone, that would like to make the investment to restore the old bird. It was once owned by Charlie Blair and Maureen Ohara, of Antilles Air Boats. It does have some storage rash in some places but it is a real nice airframe.

4500 TT, Continental W 670 220hp, 150 Since over haul with roller bearings. 2004 Aircraft was completely restored from the ground up. Avionics: Garmin SL40, Garmin GTX-327, Jasco Alternator 12 volt system. Aircraft was taxing and flipped over in dirt. The top wing need repairs (see pictures,blue tap is damage) NO damage to bottom wings or fuselage. Rudder and vertical have been done with all new covering. Included will be a new MT wood prop direct from MT ($6,000)

Pancho Barnes’ Record-Breaking Travel Air Mystery Ship N613K Offered For Sale

Travel Air Mystery Ship S/N RC-2002 (N613K), described as “a unique, one-of-a-kind, record breaking airplane” has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

On the 5th August 1930, the aeroplane was flown by Pancho Barnes to capture the Women’s Air Speed record at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Airport, breaking the record previously held by Amelia Earhart, raising it to 196.19 mph, Barnes broke the record by nearly 14 mph, making four passes over a measured one-mile course at a level of 150-160 feet. This aircraft has also been flown by many of aviation’s greatest including Howard Hughes and Paul Mantz.

The airframe reportedly has 0 hrs since “world class restoration” by JME Aviation Ltd. The 425 hp Wright R760(J-6-7) engine and Hamilton Standard 5406AL propeller are also said to have 0 hrs SMOH/SPOH.

An item described as an “early Spitfire/Hurricane aircraft camera” with “no major faults normal wear & tear” has been spotted on eBay. The listing states (in part):

This 12v camera preceeds the 24v and was fitted to the Spitfire & Hurricane in the second world war. Model G45; Ref.no lens 14a/1398; Body 14a/1389; Serial.no lens 4694; Body 4680; Maker Williamson Mfc co ltd, London & Reading. The lens is in good condition and not cracked, it comes complete with the original case as shown.

A rare 1947 Fiat G-46-3B (S/N 44-MM-52-801 / I-GIGE) has hit the market.

The example of the Italian military trainer is reportedly powered by a 225 hp Alfa Romeo 115ter and includes a Becker Comm, “good condition” stock military interior and Regia Aeronáutica markings. Spares are said to include a new engine, new fuel pump and six sets of tires.
