Newly Restored P-39 Arrives at Military Aviation Museum

The Fighter Factory in Virginia Beach, Virginia has reported the arrival of the Military Aviation Museum’s latest acquisition, a P-39F Airacobra.

As previously reported, the aircraft is based largely on an ex-Soviet Air Force P-39Q which was recovered around 1995, although it is also said to feature parts obtained from P-39Q 42-20341. The machine (ZK-COB) was restored to airworthy condition by Pioneer Aero Ltd and represents USAAC 220341. On February 26, it performed its first post-restoration flight from Ardmore Airfield in Auckland, New Zealand with NZ Warbirds Association President Frank Parker at the controls.

E-Flite Announces Upcoming 1.2m P-39 Airacobra RC Model

E-Flite has announced the upcoming release of a 1.2m P-39 Airacobra RC model in BNF and PNP versions.

The model is touted as offering “functional retractable landing gear and split flaps, plus a 3S and 4S compatible power system to deliver a unique warbird experience.” Additional features reportedly include “abundant scale detail” including panel lines, exhaust stacks and removable drop tank, 6–channel control with 7 factory-installed servos and linkages and factory-finished “Wahl Eye II” painted camo trim scheme with factory-applied decals.

The BNF version also offers “unmatched stability and precision” of AS3X technology for smoother flight performance and ease of flying with optional-use SAFE Select flight envelope protection.

On February 26, Jerry Yagen’s P-39F Airacobra performed its first post restoration flight from Ardmore Airfield in Auckland, New Zealand with NZ Warbirds Association President Frank Parker at the controls.

As previously reported, the aircraft is based largely on an ex-Soviet Air Force P-39Q which was recovered around 1995, although it is also said to feature parts obtained from P-39Q 42-20341. The machine (ZK-COB) was restored to airworthy condition by Pioneer Aero Ltd and represents USAAC 220341.

Newly Restored P-39Q Performs First Engine Test in NZ [Video]

Pioneer Aero of Ardmore, New Zealand has announced that their P-39Q Airacobra project performed its first successful engine test earlier today.

As previously reported, the aircraft (42-20341) is based largely on an ex-Soviet Air Force P-39Q which was recovered around 1995, although it is also said to feature parts obtained from P-39Q 42-20341. The machine is reportedly owned by Jerry Yagen / Military Aviation Museum and is being restored to airworthy condition as USAAC 220341.

The company reports that high powers will be conducted later in the week “and who knows what after that.”

Nearing Completion, P-39 Project Makes First Outing Into Sunshine Since WW2

Yesterday, Pioneer Aero, Ltd. of Ardmore, New Zealand reported the first outing of their P-39 project into the sunshine “wings on, wheels down” since WW2.

The project (42-20341) is reportedly based largely on an ex-Soviet Air Force P-39Q which was recovered around 1995, although it is also said to feature parts obtained from P-39Q 42-20341. The machine is reportedly owned by Jerry Yagen / Military Aviation Museum and is being restored to airworthy condition as USAAC 220341.
