1942 DC-3/C-49K Airframe Project With WW2 Service Offered For Sale

A 1942 Douglas DC-3 / C-49K airframe project is available for sale.

Aircraft was built as a DC3 before the war, then modified as a C-49K and impressed into service. After the war she served with multiple passenger airlines. In 1956 she was converted into an executive transport role (we have the layout). Her most recent iteration was a cargo role.

According to the listing, the aircraft served as part of Air Transport Command during WW2, being sent to Morrison Field in West Palm Beach Florida for use in the 27th AAF Ferrying Wing. It reportedly flew in the D-Day 50th anniversary flight but was damaged by a tornado in 2008, having sat ever since. 1940 Stearman PT-13D/N2S-5 HB-RBG Offered For Sale

Boeing Stearman PT-13D/N2S-5 HB-RBG (S/N 75-5346) has hit the market.

This HB-RBG has been delivered by Boeing to the Argentine Marines (type 76D) and served there for 20 years as a combat trainer. After its time as a tow plane, the aircraft first flew in Switzerland in 1989 and became a symbol of the Aviation Museum Altenrhein where the plane is located since 1991.

According to the listing, the airframe has 4430 hrs TT, while the 450 hp Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-14B engine has 190 hrs TTSO. The machine is reportedly equipped with a smoke system, two new parachutes and an avionics/ connectivity package consisting of VHF 8.33Khz, Mode S XPNDR FLARM and 406Mhz ELT.

A 1/2 scale P-40 based on Bushby Midget Mustang is currently available for sale. The listing states (in part):

This plane does an honest 253 mph at 10,000 ft altitude on a measured course, is fully aerobatic (+/- 9 Gs) has retractable gear, flaps and cabin heat. It has basic flight instruments, no radio and no navigation. It takes off in 400 ft, climbs at 1800ft/min cruises at 180 mph and will fly stably at less than 60 mph. Landing speed is ~80 mph. The wing span is 19 ft 6 inches, length is 16 ft 4 inches, height is 4 ft 6 inches, empty weight is 642 lbs and gross weight is 950 lbs. It has a 23 gallon fuel tank.

A full-scale Airdrome Aeroplanes Sopwith Camel reproduction which is “currently being test flown” is available for sale. The listing states (in part):

I have decided to list the plane for sale due to work commitments as I will no longer have the time nor commitment to complete the remainder of the test flying phase or sort out any associated issues as they arise. I am hoping that the aircraft will be purchased by someone or a small group of enthusiast that can put in the time that I don’t have.

Listed below are the issues that need to addressed before the final test flying phase can be completed: (a) Prop needs approximately 1.5 inches taken off the tips to increase maximum RPM to 3000/3100 as recommended by Rotec, its currently only achieving 2750RPM in straight and level at full noise. (b) Oil temp not working (could be a faulty sender unit?). (c) Oil temp probe needs changing from tank to return line to get more accurate reading (this should fix dot point B). (d) Tail plane needs a slight shim adjustment as it requires slight forward pressure on the stick to maintain level flight. (e) Cooling ventilation to back of engine needs redesigning to eliminate any fuel vaporisation issues.

The description reports that the machine is powered by a 150 hp nine-cylinder Rotec R3600 radial engine spinning a 90″culver wooden propeller. It is currently registered under RAAus 19-2137 and wears colors representing the machine flown by WW1 Canadian Ace Donald MacLaren. “This is a Corben Ace, only a Project because it’s been in storage. I bought it recently as a package deal and have decided to sell it. I have no logs or paperwork except a clean bill of sale from the Wright Patterson Airforce Museum. I was told it’s a Chevy engine but have no idea. It does turn over. Just got it unloaded and haven’t spent much time to investigate it. Missing the instruments and intake manifold and carb. Other than that it looks complete. Looks like an older build, but extremely well done. Wing tanks and a fuselage tank… Has a little hangar rash from storage on aileron wing root and back of one gear leg NO other damage. Not sure what it is covered with. No prop.”
