Restored, Korean War Veteran F4U-5NL Corsair Offered For Sale

1950 Chance Vought F4U-5NL D-FCOR (S/N 124541) is available for sale.

The -5 Series Corsairs were the first post-war model of the type, and have been described as the nicest of all to fly. Approximately six examples remain in airworthy condition today. This particular machine is a Korean War veteran that flew with VMF-513 “Flying Nightmares.” It was sold to the Argentine Navy after retirement from US service and served in the Argentine Armada with 2nd Esquadrilla de Ataque, being assigned to the Argentinian aircraft carrier Independencia. On 6 November 1964 it was involved in a landing accident and was subsequently retired.

The aircraft was stored in the Naval Museum (El Tigre) as a gateguard before being acquired by Max-Alpha Aviation GmbH in 2009. It was extensively flown throughout Europe during the 2010 season and then restored back to its original -5 configuration by Meier Motors. A 1936 Piper J-2 Cub has been spotted for sale. The listing states:

Very acrobatic and sporty because it has a 65 horse Continental and weighs 200 lbs less than a Piper J-3. Also includes vintage stock 40 horse Continental. Some of the parts alone are worth $10k a piece. Well running airplane by mechanic owner. Draws a crowd at every air show. Nice paint. 4 gauges on panel: Altimeter, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Tachometer. Charity owned, so proceeds benefit people in extreme poverty.

Some fabric of interior of cabin needs replaced but all the canvas of the exterior is in good shape. Plexiglass windshield has some cracks, but overall well maintained.

P-51 Under Restoration and For Sale With Option to Complete as P-51D or TF-51

Tom Reilly and his skilled crew (best known for the award-winning XP-82 Twin Mustang restoration) are currently in the process of restoring a P-51 (S/N 44-12853), and it’s for sale. The listing states (in part):

This is a unique opportunity to have a P-51 Mustang built to your specifications. Customer to choose: restored as a P-51D or a TF-51: Interior paint colors, instrument panel layout, rear seat configuration, replica guns/no guns, exterior paint / polish. The project is currently under restoration and the will be updated as subassemblies are completed and parts added.

The fuselage has reportedly been rebuilt with new skins and longerons and is ready for systems installation (the systems are described as “either N.O.S., new manufactured, or overhauled to zero time specifications”). The engine mount has also been rebuilt with new longerons. A wing kit has been purchased from Odegaard Wings and will be restored with new wing spars, ribs, and skins. The aircraft will be powered by a Packard V-1650-9 to be overhauled by either Vintage V-12’s or Roush Aviation.

The project is located in Georgia and is currently being offered with two options: completed as a P-51D for $2.45m or a full dual control TF-51 for $3.5m. Click here to check out the complete listing.

“Damaged, Cheap” 2006 American Legend AL3 Cub Airframe Offered For Sale

A “damaged, cheap” 2006 American Legend AL3 Cub airframe has hit the market. The aircraft is described as “not a kit or homebuilt aircraft” but a “fully factory engineered and built” machine which is “60 years newer than the newest ‘original’ Cub that it emulates.” The listing states (in part):

This airplane is damaged, as you can see, but not from crashing into the ground! It landed long at a grass runway and couldn’t stop rolling before hitting trees at the end of the runway… No paperwork issues, as is common with airplanes built in the 1940’s. Logbooks since brand new included! Annual just expired 6/1/2020, not a sitter! And the FAA bill of sale! And the FAA airworthiness certificate!

Restored P-51 / TF-51D Mustang “Little-Ite” Offered For Sale

North American TF-51D Mustang (S/N 44-63473 / D-FUNN) is available for sale.

According to the listing, the aircraft was built as P-51D-25-NA in Inglewood at North American in 1944 before being delivered to the USAAF and listed with the tactical code 44-73117. It was then allocated to Air Force Reserve (AFRES) and served with the New Jersey Air National Guard (ANG NJ). It has been in civil use since 1996 and has been converted to a two seater TF-51. Since 2010 the aircraft has been based in Germany, where it underwent an extensive two year restoration.

The airframe and Rolls-Royce Packard V-1650-7 engine reportedly have 67 hrs TSOH / 158 landings. The Hamilton Standard 24-D50 (w/Paddle Blades) also has 67 hrs TSOH. The aircraft is currently being offered for €3,300,000. Click here to check out the complete listing.
