Special Hobby Shares Liveries For Upcoming Westland Whirlwind Kit

Special Hobby has posted an update with marking options for their upcoming Westland Whirlwind Mk.I model kit in 1/32 scale.

As previously reported, the kit’s (SH32047) development has been talked about for some time in the modeling community and its release is anxiously awaited. Previous updates have focused on CAD renderings, test fittings and the molds, which were reportedly created using an electroplating process sometimes also known as galvanic deposition.

The company recently completed work on the 3D data, and released renderings showing early and late cockpits. The cockpit itself will reportedly be “very detailed” with the kit boasting both plastic parts and PE fret.

Special Hobby Shares First Test Shots of Upcoming 1/32 Westland Whirlwind Kit

Special Hobby has shared the first test photos of their upcoming Westland Whirlwind Mk.1 model kit in 1/32 scale.

The newly released images show the first test shot of wing and engine nacelle molds, as well as the first raw wing sprue fit test. According to the company, corrections are necessary, but it looks good.

As previously reported, the molds are reportedly being created using an electroplating process, sometimes also known as galvanic deposition. The kit’s (SH32047) development has been talked about for some time in the modeling community and its release is anxiously awaited.

Modelsvit Releases New Tool P-51H Model Kit

Modelsvit has released its new tool P-51H model kit in 1/48 scale.

The kit (4817) reportedly includes two cockpits, clear parts (open/closed canopy) and flaps that can be adjusted in 2 positions. Additional features include adhesive masks, photo etched parts and decals with marking options for a number of aircraft, including 44-64561 of 182 FBS, Texas ANG; 44-64347 of 101 FIS, Massachusetts ANG; 44-64351 of 133 FIS, New Hampshire ANG and RAF machine KN987.

HpH Releases New Tool 1/48 B-52 Stratofortress Model Kit

HpH Models has announced the release of their new tool B-52 Stratorfortress model kit in a massive 1/48 scale.

The company states that the kit (HPH 48052L) has been finished and the first pre-orders are currently being dispatched:

There are about 60 pre-ordered kits right now and further pre-orders are being accepted. If you pre-order the kit right now, you will get to the pre-orders list once the deposit is paid. New pre-orders will be dispatched during March.

As previously reported, the offering is part of the company’s “extreme” line, which also includes a 1/48 B-36 Peacemaker. It reportedly includes fiberglass main assemblies, vacuum cast resin details and clear parts made of transparent resin. First Look: Test Frames For Modelsvit’s Upcoming New Tool P-51H

Modelsvit has announced that the molding process for their upcoming new tool 1/48 P-51H model kit is nearing completion, and has released photos of the first test frames.

As previously reported, the company states that the 1/48 kit will include two cockpits, clear parts (open/closed canopy) and flaps that can be adjusted in 2 positions. It was previously indicated that the model would be released sometime in 2019.

Airfix Releases Giant 1/24 F6F-5 Hellcat Model Kit

Today, Airfix released its highly anticipated, new tool F6F-5 Hellcat model kit in a massive 1/24 scale.

As previously reported, the model was originally announced at the Telford model show in November 2018. It reportedly includes over 600 parts with full cockpit detail; a complete, fully detailed radial engine, engine mount and all ancillaries; separate engine cowling and forward fuselage panels; detailed undercarriage, undercarriage bays and arrestor hook; fully detailed gun bays with complete machine guns and ammunition trays and realistic surface detailing showing rivets, fasteners and rippled stressed skin. Drop tanks (2 types), 250lb and 500lb bombs and rockets are also included.

The kit (A19004) is also touted as offering four liveries and options to display the wings extended or folded, the canopy open or closed and the landing gear and flaps either extended or retracted.

First Look: Airfix’s Upcoming Vickers Wellington GR Mk.VIII

Airfix has announced the upcoming release of a 1/72 Vickers Wellington GR Mk.VIII, a type which was “specifically built for Coastal Command duties and equipped with new equipment designed to detect and destroy U-Boats.”

The upcoming kit (A08020) is reportedly based on the new tool Wellington Mk.IA/C (A08019) released last year and will include additional part frames for the GR Mk.VIII variant. Newly released 3D CAD images show the installation of some of the additional parts including Leigh Lights – which are described as “a fascinating aspect of the air war during WWII and one which made a significant contribution to the Battle of the Atlantic.”

Two different versions of the variant can be represented, including HX379 of 172 Squadron, which includes a “the full antenna array which was a feature of the ASV Mk.II radar equipment installation and has the front turret removed and glazed over.” The second livery option represents HX485 of 38 Squadron, which displays the full ASV Mk.II radar antenna array but retains its front turret.
