Brickmania Releases B-17G LEGO Model Kit [Video]

Brickmania has released their impressive, limited edition B-17G LEGO model kit.

As previously reported, the representation of the iconic WW2 bomber includes 3,074 LEGO, and BrickArms elements, 10 custom-printed minifigures, 10 .50 caliber BrickArms machine guns mounted on moving turrets, moving flaps, ailerons, and rudder, retractable landing gear, four bombs with opening bomb bay doors, spinning propellers, a detailed interior, printed elements and a high-quality sticker sheet.

New Details on Airfix’s Upcoming New Tool Vickers Wellington Model Kit

Airfix has announced the marking options for their upcoming new tool Vickers Wellington model kit in 1/72 scale.

The kit (A08019) will reportedly include decals representing Mk.1A N2980 “R” Robert of No 20 Operational Training Unit and Mk.1C L7818 of No 75 [New Zealand] Squadron. The latter machine is also featured on the kit’s box art and is depicted after it was attacked by a Messerschmitt Bf 110 during a bombing run over Germany on the night of July 7/8, 1941. The machine was severely damaged and a fire had erupted on the starboard wing, prompting Sergeant James Allen Ward to climb out of the bomber’s astrodome hatch and attempt to smother the flames with a canvas cockpit cover. The dangerous gamble paid off and he was able to stop the spread of the flames, allowing the aircraft to return home and earning Ward the Victoria Cross.

As previously reported, the Airfix team is designing the model with the aid of original engineering drawings and other rare Wellington information to provide historical accuracy and “impressive levels of detail.” It is currently slated for release in June 2018.

New Photos Provide Detailed Look at HK Models’ Upcoming 1/32 Avro Lancaster

After the release of an initial series of tooling photos last week, Merit International, LLC has provided a new series of images showing details of Hong Kong Models’ upcoming 1/32 Avro Lancaster model kit.

The new images reportedly show the model at the Shizuoka Hobby Show and reveal detail of the fuselage interior and nose turret. Although the company states that it’s “getting closer,” further refinements are still on the way.

When complete, the model will reportedly represent the Mk 1 and include markings for R5868 “S-Sugar” of 467 Squadron RAAF, which became the first bomber to complete 100 missions.

Hong Kong Models Reveals Tooling Samples for Upcoming 1/32 Avro Lancaster

Hong Kong Models has released photos of the tooling samples for their highly anticipated 1/32 Avro Lancaster.

As the Lancaster has “a very complicated shape” and “tons of exterior and internal detail,” the project has been underway for some time and seen continual CAD modifications. The tooling design and fabrication is also said to be extremely complicated, although the results are now beginning to emerge.

The company states that surface details have not yet been added, as the tooling process will continue until June or July. When complete, the model will reportedly represent the Mk 1 and include markings for R5868 “S-Sugar” of 467 Squadron RAAF, which became the first bomber to complete 100 missions.

Wingnut Wings Releases New Tool 1/32 Junkers D.I Model Kit

Wingnut Wings has released their new tool model kit of the Junkers D.I monoplane, which was introduced in late WW1 and became the first all-metal fighter to enter service.

The new 1/32 kit reportedly includes 124 high-quality injection molded plastic parts, 11 photo-etched metal detail parts and Cartograf decals with markings options for five aircraft. It is said to authentically reproduce the D.I’s corrugated Duralumin surface details, lapped panels and hatches and raised rivets while also including a number of options, including fuselage spine corrugations, foot steps, propellers, Daimler-Mercedes 180 hp D IIIa and 200 hp D IIIau engine details and accommodation for a “wings removed” diorama display.

Mars Models Announces Development of 1/144 Tu-4 Bomber

Mars Models has announced the development of a Tupolev Tu-4 in 1/144 scale.

The Tu-4 was a Soviet strategic bomber that is essentially an unlicensed, reverse engineered copy of the B-29 Superfortress. It performed its maiden flight in 1947 and went on to serve until the 1960s, during which time a number of variants were produced for long-range bombing, transport and passenger-carrying duties.

Details about the Mars kit are nonexistent at the moment, although renderings have been released. Click below to check out an additional example.

Eduard to Release Limited Edition 1/48 Typhoon Mk.Ib Model Kit

Eduard has announced the upcoming release of a Limited Edition Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib model kit featuring a bubble canopy.

While the molds for the plastic parts originate from Hasegawa, the 1/48 scale offering (11117) will reportedly feature additional resin parts, including a large Tempest-style horizontal stabilizer and a four blade prop and spinner. The kit is also said to boast pre-colored photo etched parts, paint masks and Cartograf decals.

Six preliminary marking options have been selected, including MN819 of 245 (North Rhodesian) Squadron, MN529 184 Squadron, RB207 of 438 (RCAF) Squadron, MP197 of 245 (North Rhodesian) Squadron, SW399, 175 Squadron, and RB431 of 123 Wing.

Mystery Photo Stokes Excitement About Possible New Avro Vulcan Model Kit

Trumpeter/Hobby Boss whet the appetites of Avro Vulcan fans earlier today with the above photo, which has stoked excitement that a new kit representing the iconic Cold War delta wing bomber may be on the horizon.

Unfortunately, no information was included, so scale, kit contents, pricing and availability details are unknown at the moment.

Here’s hoping some light is shed on the mystery in the near future.

Striped Fighter to Release New Tool Bf-108 B/D Taifun Model Kits

A new company called Striped Fighter is reportedly gearing up to release new tool model kits of the Messerschmitt Bf-108 B/D Taifun in 1/32 scale.

The aircraft was an all-metal four-seat sports/recreation aircraft introduced in 1935. It served with the Luftwaffe during WW2, acting mainly as a personnel transport and liaison aircraft.

Details on the new releases (SF998032/SF999032) are virtually nonexistent at this point, although Scalemates is reporting that the offerings will consist of plastic sprues, waterslide decals and clear parts. It also appears that the machine will be represented in both military and civilian markings.
