Build Log: Aero Graphics 22″ Sopwith Triplane [Video]

The latest video build log from DX Modelworks focuses on Aero Graphics’ 22″ span Sopwith Triplane.

The kit is based on plans designed by J.H. Watters and is a beautiful representation of this 1916 design. This particular build sees the model heavily modified and enhanced with extra details, including custom 3D printed components. The video concisely details the project, and like the channel’s previous videos, its photo documentation and tips will likely be helpful to both new and experienced modelers alike.

A 1988 Sopwith Triplane reproduction (G-BWRA) has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):

Replica Sopwith Triplane fitted with1 x WARNER AIRCRAFT CORP SCARAB 165 Engine OH in 1999 thence 2017 Cylinder OH by Vintec; Wings recovered in 2010; Permit to August 2022; Very well known airshow performer. Reluctant sale due to new project. Totally airworthy aircraft, ready to fly away or be shipped anywhere in the world.

Sopwith Triplane Performs First Flight At Military Aviation Museum [Video]

The Military Aviation Museum’s full-scale Sopwith Triplane has performed its first flight since arriving at the Virginia Beach attraction last July.

As previously reported, The Lycoming-powered machine (N543A) was built by Chad Wille in the early 1990s and was recognized as an “Outstanding Aircraft” at SUN ‘n FUN 1993. It became part of the Guntersville, Alabama-based Replica Fighter Museum owned by the late Frank Ryder before moving on to the Homer B. Wilson Vintage Museum at the Guntersville Municipal Airport.
