First Look: Test Build / Sprues For Airfix’s New Tool Avro Vulcan B.2 Kit

Airfix has released an update on their upcoming, new tool 1/72 Avro Vulcan B.2 kit (A12011) which includes sprue images and detailed test build photos.

As previously reported, the company initially announced the kit’s development at the Scale Modelworld 2019 event in Telford. The kit’s spures have been “rigorously inspected” by the development but are still subject to change before production. Likewise, the model seen in the new test build images is still subject to change as well, as the process allows the team to “examine both the accuracy of molding detail and effectiveness of models construction from the parts.”

The Vulcan kit is currently slated for release sometime this autumn. Click below to check out a selection of the newly released images.

Tamiya Releases Limited Edition P-38H Masterpiece Kit

Tamiya has released their “one shot production run” P-38H Masterpiece kit in 1/48 scale.

As previously reported, the kit (25199) offers a bevy of new parts to replicate the type, including larger supercharger intakes, rear canopy without reinforcing frames, instrumentation, nose landing gear strut and bay covers, main landing gear reinforcements, upgraded 20mm cannon and 12.7mm machine guns that were often modified on the ground, plus turbocharger coolant pipe. It also includes weights for accurate balance and display and a detailed cockpit with wheel-type controls, radio, throttle box and more.

One marking option will be included representing 432nd Fighter Squadron, part of the 475th Fighter Group that was devastatingly effective from 1943-44 over the Pacific. A canopy painting mask is also included as well as a full-color painting guide.

Eduard Releases New “Very Long Range” P-51 Kit With 12 Liveries

Eduard has released a new, limited edition P-51D VLR (Very Long Range) “Tales of Iwo Jima” model kit in 1/48 scale.

The offering (11142) focuses on aircraft from 15th FG, 506th FG, 21st FG that flew so-called “Very Long Range” missions from Iwo Jima to Japan. It includes Eduard plastic parts and decals, pre-painted photo-etched parts, a painting mask, resin wheels and a pin bearing the emblem of the 78th Fighter Squadron. Special Hobby Releases New Short Sunderland Mk III Model Kit

Special Hobby has released their new Short Sunderland Mk III model kit in 1/72 scale.

The offering (SH72304) is based on the new tool Sunderland Mk V model kit (SH72162) released in 2019. The new Mk III kit represents the anti-submarine version of the flying boat and reportedly offers “extremely detailed interior,” scale panel lines and marking options for four machines, including EK591/2-U of 422 Squadron, EJ168/J of 343 Squadron, EJ134/N of 461 Squadron and DV969 of 10 Squadron.

Eduard Releases New Tool, Limited Edition, Dual Combo Spitfire Mk.1 Kit

Eduard has released its new tool Spitfire Mk.1 kit in 1/48 scale.

The new offering, dubbed “The Spitfire Story” (11143) is a limited edition “dual combo” kit focused on machines from the type’s introduction into service to the end of Battle of the Britain. It reportedly includes two sets of Eduard plastic parts to build two models with different fuselage options. Also included are pre-painted photo-etched parts, a painting mask and a resin figure of Douglas Bader.

Special Hobby Shares Development Update on 1/32 Westland Whirlwind

Special Hobby has shared a new update on the development of their upcoming Westland Whirlwind Mk.1 model kit in 1/32 scale.

The kit’s (SH32047) development has been talked about for some time in the modeling community and its release is anxiously awaited. Previous updates have focused on the the molds, which are reportedly being created using an electroplating process sometimes also known as galvanic deposition, as well as test fittings of parts.

The newly released renderings detail the cockpit, which will reportedly be “very detailed.” According to the company, the kit will be plastic, with the gold parts being PE fret. Click below to see more.

Dora Wings To Release New Westland Lysander Mk III Model Kit

Dora Wings is slated to release a new Westland Lysander Mk.III model kit in 1/72 scale.

The upcoming release (DR72024) is reportedly based on the company’s new tool Lysander Mk.III SD kit (DW72023) released in 2019 and includes “one new form.” Liveries have also been announced, the profiles for which can be seen below.

The kit is currently slated for release in September.

Design Update: Wingsy Kits’ Upcoming Bf 109E Model

Wingsy Kits has been in the process of designing a new Bf 109E model kit in 1/48 scale.

In their latest update, the company has announced the completion of work on the “exterior and hull parts.” The cockpit details are apparently next in line before molds are produced.

At the moment, additional details such as kit contents, liveries, pricing and an expected release date have not been announced, although a number of new renderings have been released, additional examples of which can be seen below.

Revell to Release New Beaufighter Night Fighter Model Kit

In August, Revell is slated to release a new night fighter version of the Bristol Beaufighter in 1/48 scale.

The Beaufighter IF was one of the first aircraft to be equipped with radar for night hunting. Hidden in their own bomber stream, they waited for the rear-facing radar to come up attacking enemy night fighters, only to pounce on them.

The “Level 5” kit (03854) is reportedly a updated version of the new tool Beaufighter (03943) released in 2018 and will reportedly include new parts, a cockpit with consoles and instrument panel, separate rudder, V-tail with separate elevators, detailed Hercules engines and separate ailerons and flaps.
