Kinetic Model Developing Model of Experimental F-104G CCV Testbed

Kinetic Models has announced the development of a F-104G Starfighter Control Configured Vehicle (CCV) in 1/48 scale.

This interesting looking aircraft was an experimental F-104G modified to test advanced flight-control ideas, including an early digital fly-by-wire system used to artificially stabilize an intentionally unstable aircraft. It flew without relying on natural stability, and the program became an important stepping stone toward later control-system designs, including technology that influenced the Eurofighter.

The upcoming release (48182) is touted as a new member on the Kinetic Gold F-104 Family (eBay product link) and will include 3D parts. As of this writing, it appears that no release date has been announced. Click below to check out additional renders.

CF-104D Starfighter Offered For Sale

A 1962 CF-104D Starfighter (S/N 104633 / N104) has hit the market. The listing states (in part):

This particular two seat Canadian Starfighter was flown over ten years by the Canadian Armed Forces , being delivered in May 1962. It served with the test squadron at Cold Lake, and when the Canadians wanted to decrease their operational F-104 fleet, they sold this jet to the Norwegian Air Force on 20 July 1973. It received serial “4633” and served 334Skv at Bodo Air Base until its retirement on 9 December 1982, where it was put into storage.

The airframe reportedly has 2500 hrs TTSN (400 hrs since restoration by Unlimited Aircraft, Chino, CA) while the General Electric J-79-7 engine has 1200 hrs SMOH by Orenda of Canada. It last flew in November of 2008, but has been “maintained in flyable storage since then.”

The object is unique. The simulator is equipped with full instrumentation, the seat, the indicator radar and the radar with antenna.

“Nearly 100% Complete” TF-104G Starfighter Project Offered For Sale

A Lockheed TF-104G Starfighter project has hit the market.

The aircraft (S/N D-5810) is described as a two seat training model manufactured in 1963 which spent its entire career in service with the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) until retirement in 1984. The listing states (in part):

The project includes what is believed to be a “0” time General Electric J-79-11F (no logs) and afterburner (in container). The engine was removed from the storage container and run up on a test stand to approximately 80% power in 2016. The project includes an extensive spare parts inventory which includes a brand-new set of wings. The aircraft is nearly 100% complete and in stock military condition with the exception of the clocks and stop watches.

The machine has reportedly received gradual restoration over the last few years and includes “a very extensive technical library,” ground support equipment, and one pair of wingtip fuel tanks / underwing pylons. F-104G Starfighter Cockpit Offered For Sale

An Lockheed F-104G Starfighter cockpit project has hit the market.

The section was reportedly constructed as an Air Force simulator using all original F-104 parts. A “good chunk”of the parts needed to complete the project are said to be provided, including the entire pedestal, side sheet metal panels and plastic/fiberglass cockpit trim panels. The listing states:

Additionally, I have sourced the remainder of the parts (seat, canopy glass, main panel, and some odds and ends) from 2 different sources and will pass that info along to the buyer. It goes without saying that those parts are not part of this deal, but I am happy to share that contact info if the buyer is interested in it. The price for those parts is very reasonable.
