Kermit Weeks has released part 2 of his new video series documenting the progress on his Lockheed Vega project.

This particular aircraft was purchased from Dave Jameson after Hurricane Andrew devastated Weeks’ Polk City, Florida collection in 1992. In arrived at Fantasy of Flight in 1995 and, having not flown in over a decade, was placed on static display. In 2012, restoration was begun by Kevin Kimball, but Weeks eventually had to postpone the project “due to various distractions.” The project commenced once again in September 2019.

Part 1 of the series deals with the fuselage frame work and can be seen here. Part 2 covers the making of the fuselage skin and can be seen below.

A “barn find” 1939 Aeronca 65C Super Chief project has been spotted for sale. The listing states:

Barn find. Looks complete but needs work. Aircraft will have FAA bill of sale, and has current registration. Serial number is 4939. I am told the Super Chief has a larger A65 engine and might be a little more rare. At least some of the wood spars have rot, but I am told new spars are available at Aircraft Spruce. At least two wing ribs have rodent damage. Fabric was cotton and not good. Fuselage wood stringers are bowed from dope shrinkage, but wood bulkheads look good (see pic). Cowl and nose bowl are there (nose bowl is on top of one wing, see pic). Wood prop and prop retainer goes with it, but don’t know prop condition. Currently, brake lining is stuck onto brake drums. The airframe reportedly has 6040 Hrs TTSN while the Pratt & Whitney R-1340 engine has 156 hrs SMOH by Aero Engines. The propeller is a Hamilton Standard 12D40 with 320 Hrs SPOH.

The aircraft includes new Garmin avionics (March 2019) as well as Red Line brakes, new tires / brakes / battery (Feb 2021) and an annual completed in Feb 2021.

HK Models has announced the upcoming release of a new B-25H Mitchell model kit in 1/32 scale.

The offering (01E037), dubbed “Gunships over CBI” includes Cartograf decals with two marking options representing S/N 43-4975 “Kid Sister” and 43-4244 “Peggy,” both of 81st BS/12th BG. A number of additional images have also been released which can be seen below.

The kit is currently slated for release some time in March.
