Piper Comanche Project For Sale: “Includes Airframe, Engine Logbooks Since Day 1”

A 1965 Piper Comanche 260 has been spotted for sale.

According to the listing, the aircraft has 4431 total time and features a low-time IO-540 engine with just 197 hours since a high-quality 2018 overhaul (new nitrided cylinders, mags, bearings, and overhauled fuel injection). It also includes desirable speed mods and updated avionics including a Century II B autopilot and Stormscope. It includes airframe and engine logs since new as well as “lots of supporting paperwork.”

It has a clean airframe overall with good paint and excellent interior, but experienced a partial gear-down landing that resulted in minor belly and antenna scraping and bent gear conduits (now cut, with gear locked down), while leaving the wings, tail, engine, and primary structures undamaged.

1959 Piper Comanche 250 For Sale: “Nicest on the Market”

A 1959 Piper Comanche 250 described as “the nicest on the market” has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):

Total Time (TT): approximately 3400. Engine: Lycoming O-360/O-540 with approximately 1150 hours since major overhaul. Equipped with a three-bladed propeller. 1961 Piper Comanche Airframe For Sale: “Complete, Straightforward Project”

A 1961 Piper PA-24-180 Comanche airframe has been spotted for sale.

According to the listing, it has 2,461 hours total time, a clean 1961-style center-stack panel with intact flight and engine instruments, good cloth interior, and a modern blue/white/gold paint scheme. It is sold minus its prop-struck O-360 engine and propeller. It suffered a gear-up landing that scraped the belly from mid-cabin to the aft edge of the nose gear well, with no reported damage to wings, flaps, ailerons, Metco-style wingtips, tail surfaces, firewall, cowling, engine mount, or landing gear and drive system. A 1965 Piper Comanche 260 project has been spotted for sale.

Acording to the listing, the aircraft features 5,300 total time (TT) and 1,507 hours since major overhaul (SMOH) on its 260-hp Lycoming IO-540D4A5 fuel-injected engine. Located in Ashland, Wisconsin (KASX) and stored in a hangar, this four-seat, mid-1960s model offers upgraded performance over earlier Comanches with 90-gallon fuel capacity, electric gear and flaps, and toe brakes. It includes multiple speed enhancements—such as an Arapaho windshield, Metco wing tips, and flap/aileron gap seals—achieving faster-than-standard cruise speeds. The interior is well-kept with quality leather and clean panels, while the exterior is in good condition with minor cowling touch-ups suggested for a refreshed look.
