First Look: Modelsvit’s New Tool XP-55 Ascender

Modelsvit has posted the first test build photos of their upcoming new tool XP-55 Ascender model kit in 1/48 scale.

The aircraft, built by Curtiss-Wright, performed its maiden flight in 1943 but its performance was found to be lacking. Only three examples of the type were built – two of which were destroyed in crashes. The third is currently on long-term loan from Kalamazoo, Michigan’s Air Zoo to the National Air & Space Museum in Washington DC.

The new kit reportedly includes PE sheet (instrument panel, seat belts, cabin side panels), two canopies (open/closed), painting masks (inner/outer) and marking options for two machines (S/N 278846, S/N 278847).

The new photos show an example which was assembled “without usage of any additional stuff, such as primer or/and putty.” It is currently slated for release in mid-December. Click below to see more.
