First Look: Test Build of Airfix’s F-86F-40 Sabre

Airfix has released the first test build images for their upcoming F-86F-40 Sabre model kit in 1/48 scale.

The offering (A08110) is reportedly based on the new tool Canadair Sabre F.4 (A08109) released in 2021 and includes plastic sprues and marking options for two machines: F-86F-40 Sabre “The Flying Jokers” aerobatic team, No.332 Squadron, Royal Norwegian Air Force, Rygge Air Station, Norway, June 2nd 1962 (pictured above) and F-86F-40 Sabre 1st Air Wing, Japan Air Self-Defence Force, Hamamatsu, Shizouka Prefecture, Japan, December 1975. The kit also includes extended wing span and new leading edge slats.

Airfix Offers First Look At Sprues For New Tool Canadair Sabre Mk.4

Airfix has provided the first images of the sprues for their upcoming Canadair Sabre Mk.4 model kit (A08109) in 1/48 scale.

As previously reported, many months of work to create the most accurate model possible. This included scanning a suitable aircraft at the Norwegian Armed Forces Aircraft Collection in Oslo, taking measurements and detailed photographs and delving into the history of this particular machine. The compiled information was then used to create a 3D CAD version of the aircraft that serves as the base model shell.

The new images capture the first test frames produced for the kit, and are still subject to modification before the final product is released. The kit is currently slated for release in the winter of 2020-21. Click below to check out a selection of the newly released images.

Development Update: Airfix’s New Tool Canadair Sabre Mk.4 Model Kit

Airfix has provided an early development update for their upcoming new tool Canadair Sabre Mk.4 model kit in 1/48 scale.

The images accompanying the report represent many months of work to create the most accurate model possible. This included scanning a suitable aircraft at the Norwegian Armed Forces Aircraft Collection in Oslo, taking measurements and detailed photographs and delving into the history of this particular machine. The compiled information was then used to create a 3D CAD version of the aircraft that serves as the base model shell.

While there is still much work left to do, the new Sabre is slated for release in the winter of 2020. The company states that in this new larger scale, the model will look “absolutely magnificent in our display cabinets, especially when wearing the camouflage markings of the Royal Air Force.”
