1940 Ryan STM-2 S/N 459 (VH-AWG) described as “possibly the nicest Ryan STA/STM on the planet” has hit the market.
The machine is described as a surviving example of an Australian STM-2 which had previously been delivered to Netherlands Naval Air Force. It was acquired as a project in 1995 and transported to Tyabb, Vic, where it underwent a 5 year, 100 point restoration by Ryan “Gurus” John and Charles Govers. The Menasco Pirate C4S-3 engine was reportedly overhauled by Borg Sorenson.
According to the listing, the airframe has 50 hrs since a complete, no expense spared restoration to concourse standards, while the engine has 50 hrs SMH. It is located in Melbourne, Australia and is currently being offered for US $150,000. Click here and here to check out complete listings.
