A “hurt” 1989 Nanchang (Hongdu) CJ-6A, Chinese trainer/warbird parts aircraft is available for sale. The machine, which has 2750 TT, 700 SMOH, is described as “probably too big of a project to make rebuild cost effective,” but is reportedly “awesome” for CJ-6A parts or use as a “cockpit display, set dressing, paintball prop, etc.” The listing states (in part):
The CJ-6A is a Chinese built 2 seat tandem trainer, with looks and function similar to the Russian Yak 18a. Produced since 1965 as the “A” version, which has a 285 h.p. Huosai radial engine, this airplane is a very late production model, built in 1989! Imported into the U.S. with 1,550 hours, it was converted and upgraded for U.S. use and granted an airworthiness in 2007. Annualled consecutively since, the last inspection was 4/5/2018, with the last log entry 3/18/2019.
After a normal landing, the pnematic brakes failed and the airplane went off the far end of the runway and into a gully. Damage to the airframe, as you can see, is scattered around! The worst is to the left stub spar, which is pulled from the fuselage. The main gear appears to be intact. The left outer wing is also damaged a lot. The right stub spar is intact, with the gear still in it. The nosegear assembly is also intact. The engine is still attached and so is the propellor, which had bends on the very tips of the crazy long propeller. The tips were cut off, so now the prop is almost as long and pretty straight. The vertical fin and rudder are damaged and the horizontal, although intact, has some damage. Both cockpits have all of their instrumentation, sticks, seats, shoulder harnesses intact. The guns shown on the right stub are just dummys according to the logbooks, glued on (good glue) The airplane is painted with American stars and bars. All American logs are included (airframe, engine and prop), as well as weight and balance, operating limitations and the FAA bill of sale!
The machine is located in Sacremento, California and is currently being offered for US $4,995, although bids are also being accepted. Click here to check out the complete listing on eBay.
