A 1941 Clipped Wing Piper J3C project (Serial Number 6943 C.A.A. / Identification Number 38333) has been spotted for sale. The listing states (in part):
The airplane currently has wings built with Taylorcraft BC-12D wing ribs for a more symmetrical shape and enhanced inverted performance. The wings have been rebuilt with full span ailerons which should give a spectacular roll rate. The aircraft currently has a Lycoming O360 engine with a Christen inverted oil system and Sensenich W78HM650 propeller. The aircraft was taken out of service in 2008 and the fuselage was recovered. New Maule tailwheel, control surface cables, new main tires. Personal opinion, the aircraft covering should be removed, the steel tubular inspected, repainted and the entire airplane recovered. The aircraft has a main fuel tank, header fuel tank and had wing fuel tanks for ferry flights. The aircraft comes with an extra set of clipped J3 wings with Taylorcraft BC-12D postwar stamped rib wings and one extra set of metalized ailerons from a clipped wing cub… Special Experimental Exhibition Airworthiness Certificate. Original Airframe Logbook lost. Current logbook begins 1976. Current total time 3,909.05 Hours. Lycoming O-360 L515036 major overhaul 1967 with 826 hours SMOH. Aircraft is disassembled, and the wings are uncovered.
