In his newest stop motion assembly video, modeler Tom Grigat takes on the new Airfix Supermarine Spitfire FR Mk XIV kit in 1/48 scale.

Grigat notes that the cockpit painting employed a combination of humbrol and alclad II milspec colors while the pilot is painted with acrylic colors from vallejo. The entire aircraft coat is painted with alclad II chrome on a base of alclad glossy white and glossy black sealed with aqua gloss.

This time I tried the stressed skin effect in a more subtle way compared to the extreme effect I got with the B-17 G in 1/72. Hope it worked better this time…The additional rivets were made with the tool “rosie the riveter” and the gun barrels are brass tubes from albion alloys.

The latest stop motion video from modeler extraordinaire Tom Grigat features construction of Artesanía Latina’s Sopwith Camel structure model in 1/16 scale.

Grigat had previously constructed the company’s Fokker Dr.1 and noted that the Camel kit, which consists of approximately 750 pieces of metal and wood, is “not as easy to build.” Despite this, he states that the process is “well guided,” with the kit offering step-by-step instructions with video tutorials and more than 600 photos.

Modeler extraordinaire Tom Grigat has returned with a new stop motion animation video detailing his construction of Aerobase’s 1/160 Etrich Taube.

The model consists of brass parts and represents the structure of the unique Austrian design, which was introduced in 1910 and saw military service as a training and reconnaissance machine. Regarding the Aerobase kit, Grigat states:

It’s completely assembled without any glue used and is more some kind of a little trinket than a scale model. But it shows the beautiful construction of the aircraft – and the propeller rotates by blowing at it…

Modeler extraordinaire Tom Grigat is back with a new stop motion animation video detailing his construction of Airfix’s 1/72 B-17G model kit.

The build included aftermarket parts from CMK (Special Hobby) and also saw Tom simulating “stressed skin” for the first time, although he reports that he ran into some issues, stating that he “scratched to hard into the surface and the effect might be a bit too strong.”

The machine’s metallic surfaces are simulated using several paints from alclad II (accentuated with metal powder from Uschi van der Rosten) while engine detail and antennas saw the use of material from Albion Alloys.

As the subject for his latest stop-motion model assembly video, Tom Grigat of TOMs Modelling in Motion takes on Eduard’s “Royal Class” 1/48 P-51D kit. Tom states:

“This video is about the kit opponent of my recent animation of the Hobby Boss version were I had to add a lot of after market parts to get a good result. This Royal class kit from Eduard is so perfect detailed that assembling out of box has been better than the other kit with all the additional parts. I hope you’ll like it… I achieved the bare metal look with – for me – a new type of acrylic colors: KColors from custom paint industries. Other colors: Alclad Mil-Specs, Alclad II metallics, Alclad Aqua Gloss. Antenna cable simulated with rubber thread from Uschi van der Rosten.”
