First Look: Test Build of Airfix’s Upcoming 1/48 P-51D Model Kit

Airfix has released the first test build photos of their upcoming 1/48 P-51D Mustang model kit.

The new tool model is touted as offering “exceptional levels of detail” and “parts and build options never previously available in a Mustang kit of this scale.” The new collection of photos detail a test build of the kit that allows the team to “assess the quality of the tooling moulds and the impact of any modifications and alterations they may have requested since assessing the previous samples.”

The model is seen here in a ground support configuration complete with wing mounted triple bazooka tube clusters. It wears the colors of “Little Indian” flown by Lt. B.J Mayer of the 2nd Commando Group, 10th AF. A second livery depicting “Jersey Jerk” flown by Captain Donald Strait of the 351st Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group will also be included.

The kit is currently slated for release in September. Click below to check out additional pics.
